Healing Bridge Physical Therapy

Healing Bridge Physical Therapy Allison Suran PT, GCFP, TPS, specializes in holistic PT for people in chronic pain.

She uses The Feldenkrais Method, mindfulness, Pain Science and Compassionate Coaching through the unpredictability of pain. I founded Healing Bridge Physical Therapy in 1998 with a vision of providing physical therapy in a holistic way to Central Oregonians. I define holistic as providing every client with one-on-one attention in a private atmosphere with respect and compassion. Holistic also means incorporating comprehensive care for your body including how your thoughts, emotions and life experiences have influenced your health and response to injury and pain. After 30+ years of management including 20+ years running a full-scale physical therapy clinic, I downsized in 2018 and now practice solo and manage all aspects of my business including phone calls and insurance. This allows me to focus on each individual person and your unique situation with pain. I know the ins and outs of the medical system, have practiced in Bend since 1988 and can support you in working with your current medical team or help you find new practitioners that can help you find relief from chronic pain. See my website for more info: www.healingbridge.com

If you experience chronic pain or want to see how The Feldenkrais Method, Mindfulness, and Compassionate Coaching can help you decrease pain and improve your life, please leave a phone message and I will contact you so that we can determine if my services are what you are looking for to feel better.

No Mud No Lotus - Bread and Honey (breadandhoneyblog.net)

Hi Friends; I ran across this phrase earlier this week. It kind of says it all. So many teachings speak of liberating our human suffering – and yet typically their words are directed towards the emotional suffering that all humans experience. I have often pondered the physical suffering that my patients live with, which of course leads to emotional suffering as well.

My hope that it is possible to decrease my patients “suffering” and helping them become more mindful of the mental inner dialogue that contributes to this (mindfulness). In doing so, the physical pain should also lesson. What I (think I) know from my pain studies, is that any suffering will trigger our fight/flight systems and release more stress chemicals which make our nerve endings more sensitive and painful. So, it makes sense that one’s journey with pain is not unlike one’s journey to find relief from the emotional suffering that life will inevitably provide.

In my own life I seem to return to this theme over and over. When I am struggling and miserable with life’s circumstances, I start to feel like I’ve failed. The inner story sounds like: “I’ve done ALL OF THIS mindful, spiritual stuff and here I am still suffering!” And eventually I re-learn (over and over and over) that this “mud” is part of the experience and as I learn to be with the discomfort it creates in my system, the mud will eventually settle and once again I will experience aspects of my own personal lotus.

I wish for you the ability to be lovingly with your mud!

“Your conflicts, all the difficult things, the problematic situations in your life are not chance or haphazard. They are actually yours. They are specifically yours, designed specifically for you by a part of you that loves you more than anything else. The part of you that loves you more than anything else has created roadblocks to lead you to yourself. You are not going in the right direction unless there is something pricking you in the side, telling you, “Look here! This way!” That part of you loves you so much that it doesn’t want you to lose the chance. It will go to extreme measures to wake you up, it will make you suffer greatly if you don’t listen. What else can it do? That is its purpose.”

Finally! 2nd 2021 Blog to soothe your pain....

We live in a culture that leads us to believe that all problems should be able to be fixed. Especially medical problems! We are taught that pills, surgeries, injections and even physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture and others should be able to heal our ailments. But what happens when we’ve ...

I've been reading an excellent book to help/support people in persistent pain and wanted to share this quote. "Never ignore pain. The presence of pain is an opportunity to learn conscious living so thoroughly that it informs your whole life and your outlook, beyond your physical movements." Darlene Cohen, Turning Suffering Inside Out.

Of course, the challenge is making the commitment to conscious living and finding the right guide, coach, counselor, tools, etc... as well as making the time for oneself to learn to listen when everything inside you just wants to figure out how to run from or suppress the pain. AND, it is possible!

If you or someone you know is needing some self-care, my amazing hubby, Scott Suran just finished uploading ALL of my recordings on my website www.healingbridge.com. For the past 15-20 years every time I have taught a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson (ie; gentle mindful movements done on the floor with curiosity). As well as many meditations and visualizations for supporting and calming the brain and nervous system. These are all now available for FREE. Please use the meditations of movement lessons while you grapple with your at-home status. What a great time to learn to feel safe and wonderful in the inner home of your body. On my website go to the tab that says "Offerings", then below it the "Practices"... and ENJOY!

Our Story

Healing Bridge Physical Therapy was established in 1998 with a dream to create a unique healing environment. What sets Healing Bridge apart from the rest? During the summer of 2018 the owners, Allison and Scott Suran made the difficult decision to downsize, eliminate all employees (with the exception of part time billing assistance) so that Allison could focus on her passion of helping people who experience chronic/persistent pain rather than trying to support employees in a healthcare environment that made it difficult if not impossible for her to provide a quality experience for patients and employees alike.

Allison is now using the skills she has developed since becoming a licensed physical therapist in 1987. She has specialized in The Feldenkrais Method, Mindfulness, Pain Neuroscience Education, Sleep, mind/body studies, and extensive learning in compassionate coaching, communication and empathy for people who are experiencing significant life challenges -- like chronic pain.

Allison’s passion for continued education with the goal of deepening her skills to help her clients has never waned. She started physical therapy school with the goal of integrating the medical approach of physical therapy with holistic methods. Since then, science has caught up and there is extensive evidence that supports treatments that include the whole person.

Clients who work with Allison to resolve or improve their chronic pain experience find a practitioner who fully understands the multiple complexities and history involved with on-going pain. Allison does not just make her patients start an exercise program. Instead she aims to fully understand the entirety of their situation before initiating suggestions to improve their life experience -- and this is unique to each patient.
