Had my second call back interview at Oregon State University for a full time faculty position in the Masters Counseling program for next year. Feeling proud of the way I showed up regardless of what the results are. Although I am still building my practice and finishing up my doctor degree, teaching has been a joy. Getting so use to change and not being in control of things. Sometimes you think your projects, relationships, and path is going to one way but then it goes a slightly different way. Either way NOTHING happens to me, it is always FOR me. When one door closes regardless of who closes it, there is a bigger door ready to make itself available if I’m aware and intentional in the process. As a manifesting generator, I have learned that anything forced isn’t for me.

Last Friday was the last day of the term at OSU where I’ve been supervisoring our practicum students the last two terms as an adjunct professor. My students got me a special plant as a gift. My heart was overflowing with so much gratitude! Under the pot, one of my students wrote these words on the bottom: Joy, Abundance, Ease, Flow and Love. All words I have been intentionally manifesting into my life this year. Constant reminding though is in order to embrace there, you have to be willing to let gonof the old❤️🌻 ASÈ

This is my new Alocasia “Stingray” Eleplant Ear Plant🌱🪴

🌻Inner Child🌻

This little girl learned a prominent message that she was too much and needed to be small. That even though she was just a child, she was responsible for her parents and had to hold adult content. She would have have to be her own protective, provider and emotional support.

In this continued journey of healing, my adult self is always there to say I am resilient and so proud of myself that I choose to play, laugh, grieve, provide safety and protection for myself. I also remind her that I am worthy of receiving all these things from others and I don’t have to do it alone. I have had a village of people be there for me in these ways and I am never alone.

We have so many messages we received as a child and the power is knowing that we can always change that message and reparent ourselves in the ways we need. ❤️

Truly an honor to sit with and talk about the makings of her new documentary Little Richard: I am Everything. This film is 🔥 in all its ways giving intentional space to center Little Richards voice and his truth in being Q***r, Black and the biggest influencer of Rock n Roll. Talking with Lisa after screening this film was medicine and remarkable to hear her passion to share stories through this way of art🌻❤️

Again, honoring Black folks and the impact we have had on American culture and society. The opportunity to learn about Black History is every SINGLE day🌻

Thank you for inviting this film and Lisa here to Bend and for inviting me the opportunity to lead the Q & A!

✨Harmful Diagnoses✨

A diagnosis that continues to frustrate me that I see my youth clients come to me with is Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). Our medical model in psychotherapy has a history of misdiagnosing folks, especially those who are made to be marginalized. Another one, Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). I’m not saying symptoms and behaviors are not present, but ALL behavior is a form of communication. And typically that communication always leads back to trauma and systemic relational interactions.

Being a liberation-focused healer in systems that are founded under colonial ways of thinking and healing is always having to see behind the curtain and slowly making what is in the dark come into the light. It’s a hard balance, but it’s slow and steady change.

In my personal healing journey through lineage/ancestry work and my professional work in supporting women of color, especially Black women do the same in my practice, I am so excited about this upcoming event The Fathers Group] is hosting.

I will be facilitating a panel discussion with 2-3 Black women after watching the film In Our Mother’s Garden as a community. A film and conversation you don’t want to miss! 🌻

✨Group Clinical Supervision✨

I know I wear multiple hats, from being a Clinical Family Program Manager at a Wilderness Program, to Private Practice Clinician, to a Doctoral Candidate and all of them bring me so much joy. The one that lights me up so much right now is being a Clinical Supervisor and Faculty member at Masters Counseling Program.

Even though I am a Marriage and Family Supervisor teaching in a Counseling program, I get to bring systems in my supervision with practicum and internship students. I make sure everything I do is done through the lens of systems, not perfectly, but intentionally.

Today I talked to my practicum students about counseling styles, using the concepts found in parenting styles. Helping students understand that they enter a system dynamic with their clients and who they are in the room with their clients plays a role in their collaborative work with them. Most of the time who is in the room is our own parents, care givers, and societal members/leaders. Awareness of self and the systems that make up the self is the first most important step to change. That’s for the counselor and the client the same🌻🌻 powerpoint cred to our program director Dr. D❤️

Okay Ya’ll, I am so excited to be sharing, again, our Central Oregon Juneteenth 2023 celebration June 17-18th at Drake Park in Bend with a movie night June 19th. I am Chair of the volunteer committee this year, Again! To be honest, I did not seek out this role nor did I know last year I would end up supporting The Father’s Group in this role. It was one of the best experiences I had which is why I agreed to do it again!

Last year we had over 40 volunteers for this two-day event and every single volunteer showed up and showed out! The level of support and availability to support our team in facilitating such a big event in Central Oregon was amazing and I am so excited to announce that we are now taking applications for volunteers now!

As a Black women living in Central Oregon having a Black centered event like this where I feel seen, celebrated and supported by other Black communities and my white counterparts is a joy. To be able to work along side these people on those days is even more of a blessing and experience. The theme this year is about “discovering our roots”. If you have family and/or friends that you want to volunteer or know would be interested, please share this opportunity with them as another way to support! I’m so excited for this year! 🤩

Thank you to Oregon for being a sponsor for our volunteer committee!! The support is already coming in and it makes my heart so happy to see how we can come together as a community!!
