St. Charles has announced the closing of their concussion clinic as of March 1st. This is devastating to our community. They will continue to provide sports medicine for youth (including concussion care), but will no longer provide this service to adults. This will result in adults with concussions possibly not getting the care they need to recover or needing to travel long distances for specialized care.
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body that causes the brain to move rapidly back and forth, stretching and damaging brain cells. This may result in mild to severe physical, cognitive, and emotional changes that can last days to years. Specialized care is important for recovery and best outcomes. …. Due to the region’s active lifestyle, many concussions occur during outdoor recreation, including biking, skiing, and hiking. …. Catherine "Casey" Collins, MA, CCC-SLP and Kristin Williamson, MS, CCC-SLP are licensed speech-language pathologists who own and operate Sonos Neurotherapies, LLP, in downtown Bend, Oregon. They opened Sonos Neurotherapies in 2014. Over the past few years, the clinic has grown, and there are now six therapists working along with them. The therapists at Sonos Neurotherapies have extensive experience evaluating and treating patients, of all ages, with a variety of speech, language, voice, cognitive, and/or swallowing disorders.
