My top 3 strategies to get someone exercising. 👀👀

Step 1: Ask them (yourself) what it is your currently doing and what you want to be doing. Identify the vision, and put in strategies to get there.

Step 2: Choose something doable but with a little bit of a push. If someone isn’t exercising, the goal isn’t to get to seven days a week, the goal is to pick what feels doable to them (you), with just a little bit of a stretch.

Step 3: Pair exercise with something you like to do! has a great evidence based book “how to change,” that talks about this very concept. Hence, for my patient, she loves watching a show and we’re pairing that with twenty minutes of treadmill walking.

There’s more here to unpack, but these are some great places to start.

What’s your favorite exercise hack? ⤵️

Tap, tap, is this thing on? Lol I know it’s been a hot minute since I’ve put consistent content out but I’ve been over here drowning in kids 👦👧👧👶 (Madeleine is already 10 mos)!

Anyways, I’m hoping to get back to more consistent content creation & thought I’d share with you tools that have been helpful to me in my postpartum ( #4) journey other than the scale for results? 👀👀

I am going to expand on these concepts in my weekly newsletter - so if you’re not on it, shoot me a DM, or comment NEWSLETTER below, and we’ll get connected. 🤍

If you’ve read this far, thanks for being here and staying with me for all these postpartum journeys! ✨🙏🏼

I’ve been adamantly and intentionally working on adding more veggies to our plates over here. 🥦

Tonight, we made burgers, & I threw this giant sheet pan of veggies and potatoes in the oven - just combined what we had on hand.

Here’s the dets on how I did it ➡️➡️➡️

🤍 Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F

🤍 diced sweet potatoes, baby red potatoes, broccoli, cauli, and tomatoes

🤍 tossed veggies w avocado oil, salt, and pepper

🤍 baked for about 45 minutes (the potatoes need a bit longer to roast).

Tag me if you make this & let me know if you want more veggie recipes coming your way 👀

I choose to workout because it does so much for mental + physical health & it makes me a better mom + partner.

I slipped away to the this morning after two cups of coffee.

Did this workout from & left drenched in sweat.

I recorded my best split & my slowest split so I can test it again in 6 months.

Here’s the workout:
400 m sprint
2 minute rest
Repeat x 8

Now it’s off to plan a menu for the week, fold and put away laundry, & I think I’m making a tomato soup with fresh sourdough for dinner 🍲

How do you prep on Sundays for the week? Tellllllllll me! ⤵️

Postpartum with baby # 4 has been an absolute roller coaster ride >>>

We brought Miss Madeleine home just over 4 months ago now, & what a ride.

Let me catch you up.

🌻 I was home all summer with all 4 which was both super fun and super exhausting
🌻 Claire played t-ball and James played baseball
🌻 We drove to Wisconsin for a quick trip to my grandparents cabin & to meet up with the uncles
🌻 I returned to work seeing patients in the clinic [out of an addition we added to our home]!
🌻 I’m nursing Madeleine [which feels like a full time job]
🌻 Uncle Jacob & Aunt Alena got married in Tofte, Minnesota [travelled the whole family IN THE CAR], & we cried when they said, “I do,” and let’s be honest I cried the moment I saw Jacob for pictures 😭😭

Anyways, all this to say, summer was busy, it was full, we packed it in - all with a newborn in tow.

I’m working on nutrition, working on getting back to a consistent workout routine, and working on taking care of myself BUT I’m still finding my groove.

So, while I talk to my patients/clients about exercise tonight I practiced what I preached.

We all went to the gym. Kids to the daycare gym and swimming with dad, and I found my way to the dumbbells, a box, and the treadmill.

I did 6 rounds of:
- 1 minute running
- 8 dumbbell rows right and left
- 10 step ups on the box

And, I felt so empowered. So, here’s to getting consistent & working to build that lean muscle mass 💪🏼

What about you? Are you looking to build a more consistent routine to take care of yourself?

Look, I love diet and lifestyle interventions more than anyone I know. 🙋‍♀️

But, I’m not naive enough to think it’s the only way that works.

And I’m certainly not naive enough to think someone just needs to “try harder” or have “more willpower.”

I just strongly believe that some of our brains are more wired to be more susceptible to eating patterns that may not serve us compared to other people who don’t struggle with eating and managing their weight.

And, yes, I know weight is merely one metric. There’s plenty of other metrics to look at: fasting blood sugar, lipids, A1c, blood pressure, exercise tolerance, etc.

I simply came here to say tonight: if you’ve been trying to lose weight & it’s constant yo-yoing - I don’t believe it’s your fault.

At the same time, < 90% of Americans get enough fiber a day.

So, it’s ok to work on nutrition + exercise alone. And it’s also ok to ask for more help [in terms of medication management] if it feels like you are on the same cycle of gain/lose & you feel like you just can’t make the progress you really desire.

Curious if this resonates with you?

My top 3 tips for vacation eating//

I know (because I hear from so many of you) that you’re going on vacation so you’ll just start “the plan,” when you get back.

Let me let you in on a little secret - you can eat the foods you love on vacation AND feel good!

1️⃣ Instead of cutting out a food you really love, get the food you love, & add some veggies! Case in point: we stopped for pizza today & I got a slice (ate about half) & a Greek salad to go with.

2️⃣ Pack a cooler! And keep it simple. Last night we stayed at a hotel & I packed us sandwiches, peppers and tzatzki dip, chips, fruit, & fudge stripe cookies. See how it’s a both AND, and not either/or?

3️⃣ Make a menu & grocery shop. Did you know instacart delivers wherever you are? Literally made a menu for us, & ordered groceries quickly once we arrived!

Save this post for later & share it when you use it! 🤍
