What would your life look like if you were to live it mindfully? This 10-session mindfulness eating course focuses on waking up from the stupor most of us live in and becoming conscious of the choices we make moment to moment, every day.
Mindfulness involves awakening our five senses—taste, sight, touch, smell and sound. Developing greater self compassion that is, becoming a good friend to ourselves, will be at the heart of our work together. Research has shown that low self esteem and high self judgment, leads to depression, anxiety, disordered eating and other addictive behaviors while increased self compassion results in higher degrees of life satisfaction, happiness, self confidence and body appreciation, as well as immune function. The good news is that self compassion can be cultivated.
Our focus will be on mindful eating, drinking and movement:
Mindful Eating: Our approach is to transform our view of food and our relationship to it—knowing how the food we put into our body affects our body so that we are led to make better choices. While the choice of what to eat will always be yours, we will explore the research and benefits of transitioning to a plant-based, nutrition-dense diet. Over 1600 years ago Hippocrates taught: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” We will learn how changing our diet can, in some cases, drastically change our health and affect our healing.
Mindful Drinking: The fluids we put into our bodies affect our vitality and health as much as the food we eat. Hydration is essential to maintaining good health, however, drinking sodas—diet or regular and/or alcohol--makes no sense once we become aware of the damage these toxic fluids do to our body.
Mindful Movement: Moving the body is essential in maintaining good health. We know this to be true, but few follow through with daily workouts. Awakening to the importance of daily exercise and paying attention to how our body feels, find we do have the time and opportunities to schedule it into every day.
*Sessions will take place in real time via Zoom. You will need a wi-fi connection to participate. We are hoping to record these sessions and to make them available to participants.
