UNC Pembroke is gearing up for the opening of its brand-new School of Optometric Medicine, led by Dean Dr. Richard Castillo, OD, DO, with the vision and leadership of Chancellor Dr. Robin Gary Cummings, MD. 👓

The university plans to welcome its first class in Fall 2027, a milestone that will expand access to eye care and bring cutting-edge training and modernization to the profession—benefiting patients all across North Carolina.

Yay! We love seeing our team grow! Our Benson office is hiring for two positions!

We are specifically looking for friendly, dedicated and detailed-oriented team members to fill our Optometric Technician and Administrative Support Specialists/Call Center Technician positions.

Optometric Technician Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for eye exams by taking medical histories and performing pre-exam tests
- Assist the optometrist by performing specialized tests including: visual fields, tonometry, and other diagnostic procedures
- Provide patient education on eye health and eyewear options
- Maintain patient records accurately and confidentially
- Clean and sanitize equipment and workstations
- Help with administrative tasks and patient scheduling as needed.

Administrative Support Specialists/Call Center Technician Responsibilities:
- Answering incoming calls and schedule patient appointments
- Verify insurance details and provide patients with benefit information
- Assist patients with inquiries and provide information about services
- Help with pre-exam patient preparations and data entry
- Ensure efficient patient flow and provide excellent customer service
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow office protocols

Requirements of both positions:
- High school diploma or equivalent; optometric or medical assistant certification preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Interest in optometry and patient care
