WINTER WEATHER UPDATE (1-30-26 @ 3:30pm):
Is anyone feeling deja vu? The ice from last week’s winter storm has melted away, but now we’re looking at a new snowier forecast for this weekend:
- Johnston County is under a Winter Storm Warning until Sunday afternoon (2-1-26).
- Heavy snow expected to start late tonight (1-30-26) through Sunday with Benson in the 4 to 8 inch zone for accumulation.
- Unlike last weekend’s storm, this will be a very windy storm system, potentially resulting in scattered downed trees and power outages.
- A prolonged period of well-below normal temperatures and breezy conditions will accompany the winter storm making for potential refreezing/ice and prolonged snow accumulation.
- Benson Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed Saturday (1-31-26) and Sunday (2-1-26). All weekend basketball games have been cancelled.

The Town of Benson is back in winter weather mode. We strongly encourage residents to expect potential power outages, limit travel, and monitor weather conditions closely. Snow accumulation will make roadway conditions unpredictable and reducing travel helps keep roadways clear for emergency crews to respond as quickly as possible.
Similar to last week, with snowfall adding weight to trees, one of our top concerns remains the potential for power outages. Our Electric crew continues to monitor the situation closely and is prepared to work power outages beginning late tonight into Monday and beyond if necessary. Likewise, Benson Public Works, Fire, and Police are on standby to deal with storm-related issues as they arise.
‼️ PLEASE NOTE: The town’s top priorities are keeping major roadways clear for emergency responders, restoring power outages, and protecting/maintaining infrastructure. Town crews will not be clearing snow from residential streets and driveways during the storm — resources will be directed to the aforementioned priorities first.
