New Arran Farm

New Arran Farm A small farm in eastern NC, USA, raising and training McCurdy Plantation Horses. At Stud: Doctor Coppertone, foundation registered MPHA stallion F-12.

How we came to be Dunrovin McCurdy Horses, at New Arran Farm...

The McDuffies came to the New World (Cape Fear, North Carolina) in 1739 from the Isle of Arran in the region of Kintyre, Scotland (near Glasgow, on the Firth of Clyde). Hence the farm name, New Arran. The upper Cape Fear region of North Carolina was almost entirely settled by Scots from Kintyre, and was called the Argyle Colony. We a

re surrounded by Scottish surnames here; in fact, it's the norm, like the Irish in Boston. My Dad and Mom, Richard and Lynette McDuffie, paid tribute to our Scottish heritage by calling their place in Aiken, SC "Dunrovin" because they were Done Roving. Dunrovin is the name of a castle in Scotland the home of Clan Sutherland. It's also the name of a crossroads near Aberdeen, NC (near here). So, that's why we are Dunrovin McCurdy Horses, at New Arran Farm, and why our profile picture is of a Thistle. (I took that photo myself on the Isle of Arran in the Summer of 2016.) But enough about Scotland. Doctor Coppertone, our stallion, is an Alabama horse and is a foundation-registered McCurdy stallion, F-12. He is the sire of our two mares, Missy and Cinnamon. He's available for breeding to registered McCurdy mares. He was born in 1991, but is still in great shape. We ride him regularly, and he's one of the best trail horses that has ever lived- nothing rattles him. He's all business on the trail. His colts are proven to be naturally gaited, level headed, intelligent and hardy.
