Even as winter winds down, it’s always the perfect time to grab a book and read with your child. 📖

Reading together does more than pass the time. It builds language and listening skills, supports healthy brain development, and strengthens the bond between parent and child.

It’s never too early to start. Babies are like little sponges, soaking up the sounds, tones and expressions in your voice. Toddlers love colorful, interactive books they can touch and explore. And older children benefit from taking turns reading pages or chapters. You could even start a family book club!

The best part? Reading doesn’t have to cost a thing. Visit your local library or find a Little Free Library in your community to pick up a book.

We’re proud to participate in Reach Out and Read at CentraCare – Benson, where children receive a free book at well-child visits from 6 months through 5 years.

This year's Bowl for Hospice event was another great success! 🎳
All proceeds from the event go to support CentraCare Hospice patients and families in the Appleton, Benson, Dawson, Montevideo, Ortonville/Graceville and Willmar areas!

On Saturday, February 7, our community came together at Alley on Ash in New London for Bowl for Hospice. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our bowlers, sponsors and supporters, we raised $8,665 to support local hospice patients and families!

Every dollar stays local and helps provide meaningful extras that bring comfort and dignity to those we serve. Proceeds support complementary therapies like pet therapy, massage therapy and music therapy, our We Honor Veterans program that recognizes and honors Veterans, and assistance to help cover hospice care costs for patients who do not have insurance coverage.

We are so grateful to everyone who laced up their bowling shoes, cheered from the sidelines, donated and made this event such a success. Your support makes a lasting difference for patients and families in our community.

This past Tuesday, Feb. 10, we welcomed four Benson High School AP students to CentraCare - Benson for a firsthand look at our laboratory.

During their visit, our lab team provided a tour and demonstrated how blood is drawn. Dr. Rebeka Srbu shared insight into common lab tests and how clinicians use lab results to help diagnose and treat illnesses.

Today, our CentraCare – Benson team wore red to raise awareness for heart health and show support for the millions of people impacted by heart disease.

National Wear Red Day was created in 2004 by the American Heart Association to highlight how cardiovascular disease was claiming far too many women’s lives without enough attention. Today, heart disease and stroke remain the leading cause of death for women in the United States.

By wearing red, we’re helping start important conversations about prevention, recognizing symptoms, and taking steps to protect your heart.

Knowing the signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib) can help protect your heart. AFib is a common heart rhythm condition that can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure, or other cardiovascular issues if left untreated.

Watch for symptoms like a racing or irregular heartbeat (palpitations), lightheadedness, fatigue, shortness of breath, or chest discomfort. If something doesn’t feel right, talk with your primary care provider about your concerns or ask for a referral to a cardiologist.
