I have specific experience and expertise in treating substance abuse. EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR - SPECIALIZING IN ADDICTION
My name's Dustin and I'm grateful for the privilege of helping folks with various struggles in Central Arkansas. I grew up in Northeast Arkansas and the boot-heel of Missouri. I had my own struggles with alcoholism but was fortunate enough to recover with some qual
ity treatment around a decade ago. I continue to get help from some fine people today. I will never judge you! My wife and I are very happy to be established within the Central Arkansas community. We are members at Indian Springs Baptist Church and have three kiddos. In my spare time I enjoy rock concerts, poker, anything outdoors, embarrasing my children with hilareous antics and awesome dad jokes, softball and golf, following the St. Louis Cardinals, and working around the house / mowing the yard / that sort of thing (I know I'm dangerously close to becoming the "Get off my lawn!" guy...). I graduated from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology with a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology. I have many years of experience treating teens and adults in outpatient as well as inpatient settings. I work with a wide variety of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, personality disorders, and traumatic stress. I have specific experience and expertise in treating substance abuse, addiction, and/or alcoholism. My style or method of counseling is eclectic, but comes mostly from Client Centered and Motivational Interviewing approaches. I believe that if you and I can form a relationship where you feel safe to be your authentic self in our sessions - that is: you trust me and know that I care about you, accept you unconditionally, and respect your autonomy, then we are well on our way. I might make a suggestion or two at times or give some feedback, but for the most part, our goal will be to form a relationship with the right conditions that will allow you to gain self awareness, clarify your goals, and grow toward your own inherent potential. The “chicken or the egg” issue is a common question in my work—drug abuse may initiate the onset or increase the severity of other mental illnesses, or mental disorders may lead to drug use and abuse, as people attempt to “self- medicate” to cope with their symptoms. Multiple national population surveys have found that about half of those who experience a mental illness during their lives will also experience a substance use disorder and vice versa. My solution is to address the chicken AND the egg! With education and training to understand and treat both issues, I'm uniquely positioned to be of maximum service to my clients. If you have health insurance through work or the ACA/Obamacare (Ambetter or BCBS), it will most likely cover your treatment. Finding exactly what coverage you have can be complex and confusing. Give me a call and I will gladly find out the details making it easier for you to focus on getting better. Give me a call or send me an email for a free consultation. If I can't help you, I'll find someone who can.
