Health Nugget from Benton TN 🌻

Onions contain powerful antioxidants, they are flavonoid compounds, which delay or help repair oxidative damage to different cells and tissues in the body. Eating onion regularly, helps regenerate the powerful antioxidant vitamin E, which the body needs as a fat-soluble nutrient.
Both onions and red cabbage are particularly high in flavonols, making them significant contributors to dietary intake

Plus, onion contains allicin. Allicin, a plant-derived nutrient, is a killer of various viruses and bacteria, which means it's a good thing if you eat some raw onion when you feel a cold or flu coming on. The antibacterial properties of Allicin in onions help the colon fight off harmful bacteria. Allicin is the compound that gives off the unique strong smell of an onion.

Onions 🧅 also fight inflammation.
Quercetin, found in onion, has proven to inhibit inflammation-causing leukotrienes, the prostaglandins and histamines that are in rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. So it can help inflamed joints and chronic inflammatory pain.
Onions are the richest natural sources of Quercetin which is a powerful antioxidant flavonoid that has been linked to inhibiting certain kinds of cancers.
It is an essential nutrient offering health benefits: reducing your risk for heart disease, high cholesterol, and prostate cancer.
Quercetin is found in antioxidant-rich foods like fruits and vegetables, as well as beverages like wine and tea,
Studies have shown that high
quercetin, found in onions will help lower the development of Alzheimer’s.

Tests show that people, who were diagnosed with type 1, and type 2 diabetes, had a lower blood sugar level (glucose reading) after eating onions, and it remained low for up to four hours after eating. Onions can be very helpful in the management of diabetes. This is because of the sulfur compounds in onions that work to increase insulin production and, therefore, lower glucose levels.

Onions contain a high amount of vitamin C, which is essential for your body to function properly. It helps the formation of blood vessels, improves your immune system, and builds cartilage.
Onions improve bone density, the consumption of onions may help strengthen the bones and reduce risk of fractures for people over the age of 50.

Home Remedies/Juice of an onion
Applying warm compress using onion (onion poultice)
When placed on the chest, heat from the poultice seeps into the skin and breaks up the coagulated mucus, which causes upper respiratory issues.

Onions are known to be a secret for an earache, also known to be dated back to the 1800s.
Heat an onion at 450 degrees F for 15 minutes. Cut the onion in half. Wrap the warm onion in a clean, thin cloth or towel. Place half the onion directly over the infected ear, for 10-15min.

Prepare onion water by slicing raw onions, place them in a jar of filtered water. Let them soak overnight in the fridge.
Drink the infused water to clear congestion, boost lung health and kick the immune system into high gear.
Add new water to the onion for up to four days, before throwing the onion out.
This is great for the Fall and Winter season. 🍁

Eat some onions 🧅 for your health. ✅

What do licensed massage therapists want people to know?
1. It doesn't matter if you haven't shaved your legs, if you have cellulite, etc. There is no need to apologize for these things. As long as you're clean, you're good. Massage therapists look at your body mostly as a collection of tissues to be assessed and addressed, not as something to judge aesthetically.
2. Tell your therapist if something feels bad, or particularly good. Many of us are intuitive and sensitive, but we are not mind readers. It's unfortunately common for reviews to mention negatives that could have been easily avoided if the client had spoken up. If you're too hot, too cold, the music is too loud or soft, or the pressure is too light or firm, say something.
3. Licensed massage therapists spent a considerable amount of time and money going to school to learn anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, medical terminology, and massage techniques. We passed a difficult exam. Our job is mentally, emotionally, and physically taxing. Please respect the work we've put into this career. To that end…
4. Do not try to make your massage sexual. It is disrespectful to the practitioner, and illegal almost everywhere in the US.
5. Please don't refer to your massage therapist as masseuse or masseur. In current day USA those terms are considered demeaning. It's much like calling a police officer a pig or a lawyer an ambulance chaser.
6. Be on time. If you're late, you may not get your full scheduled time period, because we have other clients and because we don't get paid when we don't work. We aren't going to be late starting on another client because you were late. We have the same 24 hours in our day that you do.
7. Massage is neither “just pampering” nor is it magic. It can be very good for your health. It's also no substitute for seeing a doctor.
8. We live or die by referrals.
If you enjoyed your massage, tell others! Share! Share! Share! 🌻
