The National Birth Defects Prevention Network reminds us that ‘birth defect’ is a medical term and does not mean the individual is defective. The term only refers to conditions that develop before birth.

Not all birth defects can be prevented. However, there are steps you can take to help you and your baby be as healthy as you can be.
Get 400 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid every day.
Try to reduce your risk for infections.
Get recommended vaccines.
Wash your hands.
Get tested for s*xually transmitted infections.
See a healthcare professional regularly.
Talk to a healthcare professional about taking any medications.
Avoid alcohol, to***co, and other recreational drugs.

Health officials have identified potential measles exposures in Grant County, Kentucky. An unvaccinated, out-of-state traveler stayed at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Dry Ridge from December 28 to 30, 2025 and visited the Ark Encounter on December 29, 2025.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory virus that can cause serious health complications, especially in young children. Vaccination is the best protection against measles. Immunization against measles comes through the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.

If you have concerns about exposure to measles, contact your health care provider. To learn more about measles, please visit: www.chfs.ky.gov/agencies/dph/dehp/idb/Pages/measles.aspx

We have been notified by Nutricia of a temporary supply delay for Fortini infant formula. This is anticipated to last until at least mid-February. There may still be some stock on store shelves. Families with Infants prescribed Fortini may continue to redeem if it is available on store shelves. Nutricia has asked health care providers not to start new patients on Fortini infant until the supply chain is stable. If a WIC Family is not able to find the product on store shelves, they should contact their primary care physician to obtain a prescription for an appropriate alternative formula.
