Itās been too long since Iāve posted a school update!! Classes are going strong & we are on track for clinic to start at the end of August. This week students are learning about SOAP note documentation & keeping up to date records. Conversations led me to feel that this needs to be said to the general public soā¦
Please share with your friendsā¦AND your massage therapist (they may not know.)
Your massage therapist SHOULD BE going over your health history. There SHOULD BE initial paperwork, & at the very least, verbal updates asked for before EVERY SINGLE APPOINTMENT. There SHOULD BE a goal in mind for the session. There SHOULD BE conversation related to your health & the way massage therapy influences goal outcomes. You SHOULD BE told about the LMTs plan for your session so you may give informed consent.
There are situations that you SHOULD receive massage & situations you SHOULD NOT & the massage therapist should be able to explain why or why not, but only if they have the appropriate information in order to make an informed decision about your care.
A licensed massage therapist that insists on a health history, listens to your concerns, HEARS what YOUR goal is, assesses you by asking follow up questions & other tools, uses critical thinking skills to figure out the best course of action (that is within the scope of practice of a massage therapist in our state), discusses the plan of action with you, provides that service with your approval, & sends you out the door feeling fantastic -is exactly the type of therapist that I revel in educating.
I am looking to continue to train excellent massage therapists who care & have grit.
If you are looking to change careers, we are enrolling for day & evening classes in 2027.
