September is National Recovery Month 💜
Recovery is real. Recovery is possible. And every journey deserves to be honored.

At StepOne Service, we’re here to help people take that very first step—with compassion, dignity, and care.

Today, we remember every life lost to overdose. Every name is a story. Every story matters.

This day is for remembrance—but also for action. Let’s talk openly about substance use, end stigma, and advocate for compassionate, evidence-based care.

Today, we honor the generations of women who’ve fought—and continue to fight—for equality, safety, and the right to be heard. At StepOne Service, our care is gender-responsive, trauma-informed, and rooted in equity. Together, let’s build a world where equality is a reality.

BTMPS is rapidly emerging as a common adulterant in the illicit drug supply. It is an invisible, tasteless and odorless industrial cheimal used to stabilize plastics, adhesive and coatings—never intended for human consumption. BTMPS is found in products marketed as fentanyl, sometimes in higher concentrations than the actual opioid.

Traditional drug testing methods may not detect BTMPS, and its effects on humans are not well studied or understood. Remember that when illicit fentanyl is used, multiple adulterants could be present—often without the patient’s knowledge. If you use, test your supply. Don’t use alone. Know the signs. Spread the word.

In recovery, language matters—and so does our response when someone uses again.

A lapse is a short return to substance use. A relapse usually means a longer pattern. Why this matters: Calling a lapse a relapse can make people feel like they’ve failed—but they haven’t. A lapse might be part of the process.

Recovery is not a straight line—it's a journey. When people stumble, choose language that supports and not shames the individual.

wanted to share my appreciation for the overdose response conference. It is a wonderful event where speakers shared their knowledge and valuable connections were made. I also enjoyed seeing all the vendors sharing resources and the community coming together.

The way we talk about substance use can either reinforce stigma—or break it. When we use recovery-oriented language, we affirm dignity, recognize humanity and support recovery.

Recovery-oriented language says:
+ You are more than your diagnosis
+ You are not your past
+ You are worthy of care

We speak hope. We speak dignity. We speak truth.

Self-care isn’t always easy. It's not selfish—it's essential. And sometimes, it's the courageous decision to ask for help.

This Self-Care Day, we honor those taking brave steps toward recovery—and the loved ones, caregivers and mental health professionals walking alongside them.
Your well-being matters too.

It’s mid-month—take a moment to pause and check in with yourself.

🧍 How’s your body feeling?
💭 How’s your mind holding up?
💪 Are you carrying more than you need to alone?

Checking in with yourself (or someone you care about) isn’t just important—it’s powerful.
And if you realize you’re not okay, asking for help is not a weakness. It’s a healthy act of self-awareness and strength.

If you or a loved one needs help, request a pre-screening here: https://steponeservice.com/addiction-recovery-step-one/
