As we continue sharing memories during Grammy Week, today’s comes from Alex.
“When I think of Jesse, three moments stand out.
The first is the silliest. Jesse was set to arrive at my house in a white, unmarked van to drop something off. Since my wife was home alone, I figured it was best to give her a heads-up about the vehicle—and Jesse—so a gruff man in a van didn’t feel intimidating. After meeting him, she confirmed what we all know: he was kind, helpful, and the warning was appreciated anyway.
The second memory is quieter and more personal. Jesse never sought attention in the office, but he was always open to meaningful conversation. We paused our days more than once to talk about life—his honesty about the music industry, what he wished he had known earlier, and his continued love for music in whatever form it took at the time. Several young guitarists were lucky enough to learn from him, and I still regret not joining in.
The third feels most core to who he is. At his niece’s birthday party, Jesse waited patiently on the sidelines while families gathered. When asked, he stepped forward and sang ‘Bugs’ and ‘Oo-De-Lally,’ captivating both kids and adults alike. It wasn’t flashy—it was inviting. He welcomed everyone into the joy of it.”
We’re grateful the world is getting to see what we’ve known all along. Wishing you the very best this week, Jesse. 💜
