Congratulations to our founder Alice Walton being named one of Modern Healthcare’s Leading Women! We are proud to be part of her work shaping the future of health care and driving meaningful industry transformation.

Alice founded Heartland Whole Health Institute to advance value-based care that integrates physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. Alongside our work, she started Alice L. Walton School of Medicine to train physicians devoted to transforming the health of medically underserved and rural communities.

To further reshape health care delivery in the Heartland, Alice has committed $350 million as part of a $700 million partnership with Mercy to expand access to health care, reduce costs, and improve health outcomes. Cleveland Clinic will collaborate, providing world-class cardiovascular expertise to the effort.

Last week, members of our team traveled across Arkansas for Heartland Whole Health Institute's regional open forums. These events were opportunities for the Institute to share early findings from our Graduate Medical Education (GME) analysis and hear directly from communities across the state.

We partnered with the University of North Carolina’s Sheps Center to analyze Arkansas’ GME landscape, explore strategies to expand residency training, support rural and underserved areas, and build a more sustainable physician pipeline.

Thank you to all who came out in , , and .

The Heartland Whole Health Institute Bridge Award was created to recognize the outstanding contributions of Arkansas’ frontline health care workers and advocates — those who demonstrate exceptional dedication, innovation, and excellence in improving care for individuals and communities. Heartland Whole Health Institute is honored to celebrate those who bridge the gap to ensure better health care for all.

This week, four 2025 recipients met with Heartland Whole Health Institute founder Alice Walton, shared their experiences, and connected over their commitment to strengthening health across Arkansas. We are grateful for their leadership and impact.

Improving health outcomes requires collaboration across the full health care ecosystem. Traditional providers, community partners, and emerging solutions each bring strengths — and together, they form a more complete support system for individuals and families.

President Claude Pirtle highlights why coordinated, proactive interventions are essential to long-term wellbeing and how an integrated approach can better support people throughout their health journeys.
