Why We Work on “Sh” and “Ch” Sounds in Speech Therapy...
When children have a phonological disorder or a mixed expressive-receptive language disorder, practicing sounds like “sh” (as in shoe) and “ch” (as in chip) does more than just improve pronunciation.
✔️ Clearer Speech: Kids may replace these sounds with simpler ones (like saying sip for ship). Practicing helps them be understood more easily.
✔️ Better Listening Skills: Learning the difference between words like chip and ship strengthens listening and comprehension.
✔️ Language Growth: Producing these sounds correctly gives children more words they can confidently use.
✔️ Reading & Spelling Support: Hearing and saying these tricky sounds helps with early literacy skills.
In therapy, we use games, play, and practice activities so children can learn these sounds in a fun and meaningful way. This makes communication easier and more successful at home, school, and with friends!
