Doesn’t parenting always seem to be a learning process of how to navigate many conflicting emotions at once? I would encourage you to allow yourself to live in the AND so you can realize it is normal and acceptable to hold multiple emotions at the same time (even if it seems like they conflict)!

Depression and anxiety are often a reflection that our brain is overly focused on things outside of our control. Part of managing these issues is training our brains to focus more on the things we CAN control! Not to mention that it is just a great life habit for everyone!

Extreme independence can actually be a trauma response and it is something I see a lot in my practice. If you are struggling with how to get to a place where you have better ‘give and take’ balance, I would be happy to help!

One of my favorite age groups to work with is young adults! From 18-25 years old, there is a significant process going on in the brain where the prefrontal cortex is maturing and coming on board in a more complete way! If you have parented teenagers, you know how frustrating it can be to hear their irrational thought processes and see their impulsive decisions! The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain responsible for more rational thinking. That age is often a time of tremendous transition as well. These young adults are moving out of their family homes and figuring out who they are and what it means to be a real adult! It can bring on a lot of anxiety for many so I love getting the opportunity to support their discovery process, provide encouragement and watch all the lightbulbs turn on as that brain starts doing it’s thing!

Choosing therapy can be such a difficult first step to take! Acknowledging that you need a kind of support that you can't muster up inside of yourself can feel really vulnerable. Thankfully, most counseling clients feel a huge sense of relief when they experience the unconditional support and guidance that counseling offers. It frees them to take on the challenges that they are facing knowing that they are not alone. I'm here when you are ready to take that first brave step!

November 1st is what I consider the official start to the holiday season!! For many, it feels like a festive season of joyful traditions with friends and family. But also….it can bring on stress, old feelings of grief, conflict with loved ones, and did I mention STRESS? Here are a few ideas to consider as we get started with a couple months of long to-do lists and busy schedules. I know, I know…..many of them are easier said than done. Which one of these do you find to be the most challenging?
