📣Community Question time, for those that feel like sharing!📣

If you’ve received massage before: how often do you receive massage? Is that your ideal frequency?
-or-
If you have never had a massage: what’s stopping you from getting a massage?

It’s a judgement free zone here, just curious about the barriers to accessing massage you might be experiencing! Keep in mind this is a public page, choose the information you share accordingly 🐝✨

✨BRAND NEW OPTIONS✨

🐝You’re a busy bee - but that doesn’t mean you have to live in pain. Hopefully these new options help you to have the time to let me care for you.🐝

Short version: manual therapy has 2 new first time appointment length options, and 1 new returning client length option! You can check it all out on the website, or read on for details.

Long version: Originally, my new client manual therapy appointments were 90 minutes, for several reasons. However, I know not everybody has 90 minutes for a first time session. In light of this, I’d like to introduce you to two shiny new choices: 60- and 45-minute new client appointments!

•The classic 90 minute option is still my preference, especially if you have a dense medical history and complications (several issues to address, previous surgical interventions, etc).

•60 minutes is enough time for a comprehensive intake and full body treatment for simpler cases (minimal complicating factors, less dense medical history).

•45 minutes is enough time for intake and starting treatment of a specific issue without many complicating factors. (Think: issues along the lines of waking up after sleeping wrong, and you can’t get that neck moving quite right.) However, please know you may need to make a follow up visit for more in-depth treatment based on our first session findings!

•I have also added a 45-minute returner manual therapy option. This is a great option for quick follow ups, or for days that you need pain relief but are short on time.

✨The rates listed below are for first time manual therapy appointments only - it’s the same great introductory price as before, just scaled down. Returning client pricing remains the same as well, just scaled down for that new 45 minute option.✨

Factoid Friday: massage is for every body. That’s it, that’s the whole fact!

All bodies are welcome on my table, in my studio, and in my practice.

Bodies of all backgrounds.
Fat bodies.
Thin bodies.
Disabled bodies.
Abled bodies.
Trans, non-binary, inters*x bodies.
Bodies that took some time and work to feel like the right fit.
Bodies that felt right all along.
Bodies of every possible configuration.

I’m honored to provide a welcoming, comfortable space for the treatment of every body and its individuality!

There are, of course, nuances: we must be cautious when massaging folks with certain conditions, maybe we need to get your doctor’s approval, or sometimes avoid certain areas or techniques entirely. However, skilled and knowledgeable massage therapists can modify techniques and positioning, and generally find ways to provide quality, comfortable massages for all. I may not always be equipped with the skills and knowledge to treat your specific ailment, but you can bet your socks I’ll help you find a therapist who can help you! 🐝✨

(Stay tuned for more thoughts on this topic leading up to and during Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP)’s week long celebration of their Massage is for Every Body initiative.)

Factoid Friday: massage doesn’t have to hurt to be effective. (And frankly, if you ask me, it SHOULDN’T hurt!)🐝✨

When you’re caused pain, your nervous systems can react defensively in a way that makes it harder to receive the therapeutic effects of massage.

So as a manual therapist, why would I want to work against myself? 🤔 It just doesn’t make sense to me.

Massage therapists can apply heavier pressure and access deeper layers of tissue without having to be forceful and cause pain. This is why I tell folks that I don’t offer “traditional” “deep tissue” massage. I choose to be gentler to my clients, as well as myself! I have a plethora of techniques that absolutely scrap that “no pain, no gain” mentality. Folks come see me for pain relief, relaxation, and a soothing, healing touch - and that’s what I’m going to keep bringing to my table.

Happy Friday, y’all. 🌻🪻🌷

I’ve gained new followers and just want to re-introduce myself for y’all!

I’m Melissa Jones, LMT, CPT - but you can just call me Mel. I am the owner and sole therapist at Busy Bee Massage. I’ve been called “muscle nerd,” the “queen of comfort,” a “goofball,” and all sorts of other things, but I like to think of myself as a helper above all. My practice is currently located in Collins Chiropractic & Diagnostics in lovely Bentonville, Arkansas. You can contact me via call, text, or email for questions about my work, or visit my website to book an appointment!

I completed my training and became a Licensed Massage Therapist in September 2023, and became an ASFA Certified Personal Trainer in October 2023. I was recently certified in Orthopedic Massage, and will always continue soaking up any morsel of knowledge I can get my brain around. I am excited to grow and steep in the field of manual therapy and clinical massage. My long-term goals are to not only teach and proliferate top-notch, evidence-based treatment in massage but also to foster the relationship between massage therapists and medical care teams.

I approach client pain with respectful curiosity and careful compassion. I strive to help folks manage or eliminate pain with something gentler and less invasive than surgery or perpetual painkillers. Surgery and medication have their place - but when it’s possible to take a simpler and more comfortable road, why not?

I am a staunch believer that every body deserves kindness, love, and care. There is no restriction related to race, body type, size, ability, s*x, gender, or orientation in my practice. Currently, my studio may have limited accessibility for some wheelchair users - if you have questions about the space, let me know!

Factoid Friday: you can receive massage fully clothed.

In fact, a lot of the manual therapy work I personally perform is preferable to do while my client is clothed! This makes it easier to do all the movements and techniques without anybody feeling exposed or uncomfortable. For a Swedish/relaxation style massage, you can choose how much clothing you keep on under the blanket - and I will always keep you covered with the sheets!

And at any point in a massage, you can pause or stop your session, for any reason. It’s all about your comfort and autonomy as a client!

Drop me a line so I can answer your questions about massage and manual therapy!
