You might’ve heard of the Division of Responsibility at mealtimes—parents decide the what, when, and where; kids decide how much (or whether) to eat. Sounds simple enough, right? But as any parent knows, feeding kids can feel anything but straightforward. 😅
We just want our kids to be fed, happy, and healthy. But when they turn down the meal we spent time preparing—or when we worry they’re eating too much of one thing and not enough of another—it can leave us feeling frustrated, defeated, or unsure of what to do next.
Feeding kids can feel like it’s supposed to follow a set of black-and-white rules—but in reality, it’s a lot more gray. That’s where I come in! As a dietitian, I’m here to help you navigate those tricky moments with practical, judgment-free support focused on helping your child get the nutrition they need to grow. Kids are constantly growing, and their taste buds are changing right along with them. Some days they’ll love a food, the next day they’ll refuse it—or they might eat way more (or less) than usual. It’s all completely normal... but it can definitely leave us parents feeling confused and frustrated.
Sometimes, a child may refuse food or struggle at mealtimes due to medical reasons like difficulty swallowing or sensory overload. In those cases, it’s not just picky eating—it’s a sign that we may need to collaborate with other professionals to get the full picture and the right support. And that’s okay—teamwork makes a big difference!
