When experiencing a loss, it's helpful to have a few ideas that help to feel better right away. Here are a few tips.
1. Address stress. Unfortunately, stress accompanies grief. Pause, take a few breaths, stand up, touch your toes, and see what stresses can be let go today.
2. Text, call, email a friend and share feelings. Does that seem too hard? Instead ask them how they are feeling, what’s new in their lives. Reaching out to a good friend, even the smallest, friendliest act, can lighten a mood.
3. Write a loved one a letter. Even without sharing the letter with anyone, just writing it can help to work through grief.

DID YOU KNOW? Funeral ceremonies help us remember the legacy of our loved ones. We celebrate their life and highlight their best qualities and values. The event may spark memories of how the deceased impacted our life, something we may not have been able to share with them directly, but can discuss with others.

After losing a loved one, many people hear the phrase, "It gets better." from a friend who has also lost a loved one at one time or another.
Many condolences are meant to show that they understand, and give hope to those grieving, but sometimes they don't actually help and may even have the opposite effect.
Avoid these condolences:
“It gets better”
“He/she is in a better place”
“I know how you are feeling”
“At least you had a chance to say goodbye”
Try these condolences instead:
“I love you”
“I will miss him/her”
“You are in my thoughts”
“This must be so hard for you”

Technology makes distraction an easy option, but there’s so much richness that we can gain from taking a break and gaining a new perspective. This is the best way to fight information overload and burnout. If you’re at least a little bit curious about what this might hold for you, set a time to unplug and begin today.

Losing someone changes us. The pain sculpts us into someone who understands more deeply, hurts more often, appreciates more quickly, cries more easily, hopes more desperately, and loves more openly.
