We are happy to report that an agreement has been worked out between Advocare and Oxford/United! We will be able to continue to care for your family without interruption. Have a great summer.

05/14/2025

Dear Washington Avenue Pediatrics Family,
We are aware that many of you received a letter from Oxford/United about the possibility of us not longer participating. We have been though these issues with insurance companies in the past and we typically don't see resolution until the deadline approaches. While a final agreement has not been reached, we are optimistic that one will be achieved soon. We understand that changes in insurance agreements can be concerning, and we want to assure you that everything is being done to minimize any potential disruption to your care.
Have a happy and safe summer.

*****DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE******BOOKING ONLINE ONLY**
Well, it's that time of year again. To streamline the system, we will once again be doing "drive-through" flu clinics this year. We are making flu shots available daily, and they will be given in the parking lot.
--DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE to schedule; instead, go to our website and click the Appointments tab or click on https://washingtonavenuepediatrics.fullslate.com/ to schedule your children for their flu shot.
--- You need to enter each child and their DOB individually so we can accurately transfer them into our system. If you signed in prior years, you already have an account. If you can't get consecutive appointments for your child, don't worry, book as close as possible and bring them at the same time.
---Follow the signs for the flu clinic "flow" in our parking lot.
---NO SICK VISITS. We will be unable to check your child, so if you feel your child may be ill, please reschedule.
---Please be patient. Remember that we typically see flu in December or January. There is no rush to get in next week.
---We will be adding more clinics as necessary.

Dear Washington Avenue Pediatrics Family,

We are aware that many of you received a letter from Horizon BCBC that Advocare is leaving your plan.

The truth is that Advocare is actively engaged in discussions with Horizon BCBS to secure a contract renewal that will allow us to continue providing you with high-quality care under their insurance plans. Our primary goal in these negotiations is to ensure that we can maintain the same level of service and access to care that you have come to expect from us.

While a final agreement has not been reached, we are optimistic that a resolution will be achieved soon. We understand that changes in insurance agreements can be concerning, and we want to assure you that everything is being done to minimize any potential disruption to your care.

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend.

As we enter the heart of cold and flu season, here is a good reminder of how long these things last.

Symptoms from a cold can linger a lot longer than most parents realize. 2 weeks is not unusual and the cough can often linger for weeks. If your child is otherwise acting well, best to ride it out. Lots of fluids, saline spray to help congestion and honey at bedtime are all safe, easy, inexpensive and help reduce the symptoms.

Starting next week, every household will again be able to order 4 free COVID tests through covidtests.gov . Some insurers are no longer paying for us to test in the office, so we recommend everyone have home tests available. Stay safe.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said on Wednesday it will deliver COVID-19 tests for free to households across the country.
