This Past Saturday I hung up my Chiropractic shingle after 36 years of patient care and community service. Like George Bailey, I didn’t realize what a wonderful life I have had in BH until we announced my retirement May 1st. The outpouring of love has brought me to tears of joy all month long and if you were at my retirement open house, you know, ha, and because of all of the lives I’ve touched and all the community leaders I have worked with, as I said, “I’m the richest guy in town” and will forever have a full and grateful heart 💚. Best of luck to Dr Jeannine Bare who took the helm of Dr Baer @ Smith Chiropractic June 1st, Chris Wang & Kristina Brusco who took the helm of BHB&C last June and look forward to spearheading the 5th BH free downtown summer Block Party June 8th and Marianne & Tim Wilson who took the helm of the BH5K in 2024 and look to host the 28th successful BH5K Run for Mental Health September 21st. There are so many to thank, so I will just put it up into the universe and it will always find you, but Paul Neuwirth my brother from another mother and Bobbie Peer our little Sis… Thank god for you and Carrie Butler, Meghan and Virginia, thank god for you too… onto the next chapter😎 PC Bobbie Peer and Diane Iler-Smith… oh and there are 2 great articles @ TAPinto.net Berkeley Heights. You know I love Veterans, especially the servicemen & women who served in Vietnam, I was a kid during that war, watched it on our B&W tv as the KIA, MIA & WIA ticker streamed across the bottom of the picture, what sacrifices they made to serve our beloved country, and I’ll never forget the way they were so poorly treated as they were lucky enough to return home, one of Diane’s favorite authors just wrote a book “the Women” about the combat nurses who served in Vietnam, yep they suffered too, all heroes. So I have served our vets for decades, thru grants from the Smith Chiropractic Foundation, helping organize Memorial Day Parades and Veterans Day ceremonies, rebuilding and maintaining the Berkeley Heights Veterans Memorial Park, founding and serving as the first Chairman of the Berkeley Heights Veterans Affairs Committee and most importantly helping support BH VFW Post 6259 and its members, so when this Sunday I was invited to attend the post’s Super-Bowl Party, little did I know that it was a party for me too, the bell rung in the Newly renovated Foxhole lounge, “order on the deck” was announced and the current
Commander Steve Mondragon
presented me on behalf of the post members an Honorary member plaque.
Humbled and speechless am I, to be honored by my heroes with a K A Bar, the historic combat knife each US Marine is given for battle, something I will always treasure. Yesterday in my office 2 young brothers asked me if I know any heroes, I said I have one in the room next door, a Vietnam Army Veteran, would they like to meet him, in their excitement they asked what should they say to him and I told them, “it’s simple, just extend your hand and say... Thanks for your service”, they were so excited, so was that decorated Vietnam Veteran, so remember whenever you see a veteran, simply extend a hand and say “Thank you for your service” heck maybe even give em a hug... it makes a difference🇺🇸 my grandfather would always tell me, “If your lucky enough to be Irish, you’re lucky enough”, well I say “if your lucky enough to be an American, your lucky enough”…
