We honor and remember National Park Ranger Betty Reid Soskin, a treasured friend, supporter, and advocate of LifeLong Medical Care, who passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 104.

Soskin served as the Honorary Chair of LifeLong’s 2016 fundraising gala, and we were deeply grateful for her steadfast support and belief in our mission. At that gala, she shared moving reflections from her childhood during the Great Depression. She recalled what it meant to access needed health care in Alameda County as a frail child -- care made possible through the strength of community.

Soskin’s life and legacy remind us that healthcare is not only a service, but a shared responsibility—rooted in compassion, dignity, and community.

We are honored to have been part of her story and will continue to carry her wisdom forward in our work.

May her memory continue to inspire care, justice, and collective responsibility for generations to come.

This fall, LifeLong’s East Oakland Health Center proudly achieved Level 1 recognition as an Age-Friendly Health System. This milestone follows Over 60 Health Center’s highest Level 2 recognition.

At Lifelong, this recognition reflects our commitment to accessible, high-quality care for older adults in our communities. By implementing the Age-Friendly Health System workflow and focusing on the 4Ms: What Matters, Mentation, Mobility, and Medication, we ensure preventive care that supports health, dignity, and independence for every patient.

This achievement is part of a national movement led by the John A. Hartford Foundation and Institute for Healthcare Improvement, setting the standard for quality elder care.
