/ / The in between / /
There is a tender beauty to the in between spaces
when time has a texture
a certain stillness between the seconds
particles of dust hover in the sun drenched window
tiny feet slide half an inch under the skin,
waiting for the perfect moment to be born
the veins in the leaves are so gorgeous that tears well up
Maybe it is the in between spaces after all
when we have most fully
arrived
This beautiful image and poem by speaks so perfectly to the sacredness of life’s “in betweens”. These places of transition are often so fraught with fear and discomfort, but the dichotomy is that they can also hold so much opportunity for rest, reflection, and true presence. I always tell my clients that the spaces in between contractions are just as important as the contractions themselves, and the time right before labor starts is one of the most tender times imaginable.
