🎉 Celebrating 25 Years of Service: Jessica’s Story

This year, we’re proud to celebrate Jessica Salaam, who has been part of CEID’s heart and soul for the past 25 years.

Jessica first joined CEID in 2000 as a 1:1 aide, quickly earning her Master’s in Deaf Education and becoming our Toddler Teacher just two years later. Since then, she’s served as a Home Visitor, Preschool Teacher, and Leadership Team member, helping shape CEID’s programs and culture in profound ways.

Jessica’s superpower is her ability to build deep, trusting relationships with children. As our CEO Cindy put it:
“She is a gifted educator, a fierce and strategic advocate, and a truly exceptional human being... Jessica’s exceptional ability to support social-emotional development—especially in complex moments—is unmatched.”
One of her longtime colleagues, Melissa, shared:
“Jessica’s passion is helping children navigate relationships and feelings. I’ve watched her give children the language they need to express themselves. You can tell this work is her calling—it’s beautiful to witness.”

Jessica leads with compassion, intention, and humility—always asking why, always striving to grow, and always showing up for her students, her team, and her family. 💛
We are so lucky to have walked this journey with her.

At CEID, a first might be a baby’s first hearing test, a child’s first words, or an adult’s first time hearing their family clearly again. 💙
Our Audiology Clinics in Berkeley and Oakland provide expert, compassionate care to patients of all ages and income levels—many of whom have nowhere else to turn.

📊 This past year:
• 1,193 individuals & families served
• 92% of patients are low-income
• 27 languages spoken
• 100% of hearing aid recipients reported better communication and access to sound
