This is the amazing organization that I work with in Guatemala doing excellent work in the lives of so many!
Purging Pesky Parasites
The World Health Organization estimates that a full 90 percent of all children in rural Guatemala are infected with parasites. When this begins in a child’s first year, the child is much more likely to become malnourished. Parasites exacerbate malnutrition by absorbing nutrients meant for the human body to turn into energy. It is critical to de-worm children on a regular basis to ensure proper physical development, concentration, and energy.
“Most children and adults don’t address this critical issue on a regular basis,” noted Estrella Vasquez, nurse at Xela AID Clinic. This month, Xela AID Clinic treated 65 children between the ages of 3 to 6 years studying at the Rotary-funded Xela AID Montessori Preschool.
“The dose is highly effective and drinkable,” noted Estrella of the strawberry-flavored liquid that is intended to be repeated every six months. Pre-pandemic, Xela AID Clinic dewormed 900 children each year, a figure it aims to double by the end of 2021 through funds provided by the A-Team Support Group.
