Introducing the latest edition of our “People Behind the Product” series, where we celebrate the incredible individuals who make up our diverse team worldwide. We are thrilled to introduce Imani Hanif, Kitting Supervisor.
Imani plays a vital role as our Kitting Supervisor at Meyer Sound, ensuring every component is organized, accurate, and ready to support a seamless assembly process. His attention to detail and consistency keep production running efficiently, helping uphold the precision and quality our users expect from every system we build.
To get to know Imani better, we asked him a few questions about his work at Meyer Sound and life beyond the office.
Q: What’s your favorite Meyer Sound memory?
A: Probably when I first started back in 2007. I was a little nervous coming in, and it had been a while since I’d had a job. Coming from what used to be NUMMI (where Tesla is now) was a big shift. But once I got on the floor, it just clicked. I liked being able to work at my own pace and actually build things, not just be stuck on a line. And the people made it fun, new folks coming in all the time, and we built a real brotherhood and sisterhood. We had music playing, joked around, kept the energy up. It was fun, but we always got the job done. The vibe was just different.
Q: What’s an achievement you’re proud of?
A: Honestly, making it to 41. Growing up in East Oakland, I saw a lot. Lost a lot of friends to violence and tough situations. At one point, I didn’t think I’d make it this far. So being here now, having a family, being married, raising kids, that means everything to me. Meyer Sound played a part in that, too, giving me stability and good people around me.
Q: What does a perfect day off look like?
A: Starts with family, my wife and kids. I like to begin the day with a little devotion, just being grateful. Then hit the gym. After that, I’m usually out doing something in the community, feeding the homeless, church events, nonprofit work, whatever it is. I’ve always got to be doing something that gives back.
Q: Dogs or cats?
A: Both. I grew up with dogs and cats in the same house. My wife’s not into cats, so no cats in the home now, but the neighborhood cats hold it down, no mice, no rats, so I appreciate them for that. I’m a dog person too though, for sure.
Q: Something people don’t know about you?
A: I used to be into chess heavy. Went to Berkeley Chess School up in the hills and used to ride up there from Emeryville with friends for summer programs. I even won like seven trophies. My dad taught me how to play, and when I finally beat him, I knew I was ready. I was like, “Alright… where’s Bobby Fischer?”
