Bodywork - specific hands-on techniques to target areas in the body to achieve a change geared towards results and restore balance. Massage for well-being routine, stress injuries, and work on lower back, hips, shoulders and neck. Trained in deep tissue, Swedish, reflexology techniques to achieve all of the above. Frequently Asked Questions:

Question 1: What is the difference between Swedish mas

sage and deep tissue massage? Answer 1: Swedish massage, also known as "relaxation massage," involves long strokes and friction motions to improve circulation and blood flow, relieve tension and promote relaxation. A proper Swedish massage should be slow-moving, rhythmic, and addresses only the superficial tissue, and does not include profound muscle work. Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning a deeper layer of muscles and connective tissue. It is ideal for chronic aches and pains, contracted areas in the neck and upper back, leg muscle tightness and aching shoulders. Pain is an automatic reaction of the body, which is activated the nervous system. In deep tissue massage you we “hit” that spot without waking up the reaction to pain. The pressure for deep tissue massage is more intense than that of traditional massage therapy. It is concentrated on areas of tension and pain to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). Though you should feel the pressure, pain is counterproductive. Pain is an automatic reaction of the body that activates the nervous system. In deep tissue, you want to feel the spot without waking up the reaction to the pain. When it comes to allowing tight muscles to relax and find ease, deep tissue massage will enable you to breathe while increasing the blood flow into the fascia and helping release tension in the muscles. Question 3: How often should I get a massage? Answer 3: In a perfect would - every two weeks, to maintain a level of health and most importantly, to take the mental pause that is so necessary and restorative for our minds, bodies, and souls. When you are suffering from an injury, ideally, you’ll want to get a massage once or twice a week. When you exercise regularly and want to prevent injury, once a month is the ideal frequency to get a massage. When you are preparing for a big sports challenge twice a week for a couple weeks before the challenge will be the most helpful frequency. Don’t forget about those sore muscles after your challenge! Be sure to book a 90-minute massage on the day after the challenge to allow your muscles to release all the stress they’ve been put through. Question 4: What is the benefit of pregnancy massage? Answer 4: When a pregnant woman is introduced to massage therapy as part of her prenatal care, the level of cortisol in the body is reduced significantly. This provides a boost of good hormones that have been known to improve mood, vitality and immunity while lessening swelling in the joints. Massage therapy during pregnancy can provide many benefits including a sense of wellness, improved relaxation and better sleep.
