Before every game, I always tell my team that “it starts in your mind”. Whether it is a game, a test, an interview, the day, your life…it starts in your mind.

Remember to keep it healthy and clear. Be kind to yourself, be confident, be encouraging, be strong, tell yourself you can do it, and you will 💖

Sometimes it’s hard to let littles try things on their own and spread their wings, especially when climbing or exploring.

My first instinct was to help her because of the large gaps and the fact that she was wearing sandals but she looked at me and said, “No Mom, I got this. I can do it on my own.” So I let her go and when she got to the top, she looked at me again, smiled and said, “I did it! I knew I could!” She was so proud of herself and I was so proud of her too! Just look at that determination in her eyes.

She is 3 and nothing is going to get in her way! We respectfully give our children space, talk to them about choices and catch them if they fall. If we teach children about respect, boundaries, confidence, and strength, they will believe in themselves and feel powerful. Instead of always saying no or be careful, try saying I’m here if you need me. Sometimes, this can be frustrating and trying for a parent but if you get on their level and talk to them, you might be surprised by the response.

Today we played on the playground for a bit and then had lunch together at the nearby picnic table. A healthy body starts with a healthy mind. Keep them active. Fuel their body with water, fruits and veggies and fill their mind with positive thoughts. Let them learn through play and see where their imagination takes them. This will help build their self esteem and mindset as they grow older. They are our future. Remember that we all started as children. So try to be patient as the grow and let them teach you along the way, just as much as you teach them. ✨

Each class we end with “I am brave, I am strong, I am smart, I believe in MYSELF!!” ❤️ I encourage them to tell themselves this daily and hope this keepsake will remind them of it. Speaking kindly, confidently, and positive to ourselves and about ourselves will set the tone for others. Self love is so important at all ages and in all forms.

This is a preview of the gift I made for each of the students who participated in my class this session. We are in our last week of the love series. 💕 New dates will be announced soon- so be on the lookout!

Love comes in all shapes, sizes, forms and ways! Spread a little love everyday. Happy day of love! 💕

Week 2: Give Love 💚

This week we discussed different ways to show love and how to give our love to the world. As a reflection of week 1s discussion of self love, I made sure to remind everyone to:
- always respect their boundaries first
- to love ourselves fully
- balance the giving & receiving aspect
- that love comes in all forms

In class we made cards for loved ones and journaled about those who we care about and ways we can show and spread our love. My goal is for those in my class to not only know and believe in their self worth but to spread kindness and teach others to do the same by their actions. The smallest gesture can make the biggest impact 💚

In my class, each student (1st grade and up) will receive their own basket containing a journal, pen, a baggie for their masks, personal hand sanitizer, and a baggie filled with props for whatever we are doing in class that day.

As important as I believe it is for them to see each other’s smiling faces, it is also very important to teach them about healthy habits 💕 This should keep everyone and everything organized.

Can’t wait to see everyone! There’s still time to sign up and join in. We could really use a few more in 5th & 6th grade please! Much love.

Yesterday I was moved to tears listening to this profound young woman speak. As I finalize my upcoming schedule, I wanted to share this beautiful poem by Amanda Gorman. At just 22 years olds she is moving mountains with her words 💕

My favorite part- “For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it” ✨

- The Hill We Climb -

When day comes, we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never-ending shade?
The loss we carry. A sea we must wade.
We braved the belly of the beast.
We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace, and the norms and notions of what “just” is isn’t always justice.
And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it.
Somehow we do it.
Somehow we weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken, but simply unfinished.
We, the successors of a country and a time where a skinny Black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president, only to find herself reciting for one.
And, yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine, but that doesn’t mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect.
We are striving to forge our union with purpose.
To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters and conditions of man.
And so we lift our gaze, not to what stands between us, but what stands before us.
We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside.
We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another.
We seek harm to none and harmony for all.
Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true.
That even as we grieved, we grew.
That even as we hurt, we hoped.
That even as we tired, we tried.
That we’ll forever be tied together, victorious.
Not because we will never again know defeat, but because we will never again sow division.
Scripture tells us to envision that everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid.
If we’re to live up to our own time, then victory won’t lie in the blade, but in all the bridges we’ve made.
That is the promise to glade, the hill we climb, if only we dare.
It’s because being American is more than a pride we inherit.
It’s the past we step into and how we repair it.
We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation, rather than share it.
Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy.
And this effort very nearly succeeded.
But while democracy can be periodically delayed, it can never be permanently defeated.
In this truth, in this faith we trust, for while we have our eyes on the future, history has its eyes on us.
This is the era of just redemption.
We feared at its inception.
We did not feel prepared to be the heirs of such a terrifying hour.
But within it we found the power to author a new chapter, to offer hope and laughter to ourselves.
So, while once we asked, how could we possibly prevail over catastrophe, now we assert, how could catastrophe possibly prevail over us?
We will not march back to what was, but move to what shall be: a country that is bruised but whole, benevolent but bold, fierce and free.
We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation because we know our inaction and inertia will be the inheritance of the next generation, become the future.
Our blunders become their burdens.
But one thing is certain.
If we merge mercy with might, and might with right, then love becomes our legacy and change our children’s birthright.
So let us leave behind a country better than the one we were left.
Every breath from my bronze-pounded chest, we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one.
We will rise from the golden hills of the West.
We will rise from the windswept Northeast where our forefathers first realized revolution.
We will rise from the lake-rimmed cities of the Midwestern states.
We will rise from the sun-baked South.
We will rebuild, reconcile, and recover.
And every known nook of our nation and every corner called our country, our people diverse and beautiful, will emerge battered and beautiful.
When day comes, we step out of the shade of flame and unafraid.
The new dawn balloons as we free it.
For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it.
If only we’re brave enough to be it.
- Amanda Gorman
