On this Wellness Wednesday, let’s honor the time and space needed for transitions. On a daily basis, we move and shift between roles. Parent, child, worker, business owner, woman, wife. Transitions, whether big or small, require a little bit of space. Space to honor where you’ve been and notice where you’re going. Taking that breath on your commute home to acknowledge the day you’ve had, both successes and learning moments, before you transition into the next role you play. Those honest will help you be more present as you step into your next space.

How can you take time for to acknowledge transitions in your day?

I’ve had a love hate relationship with Sun Salutation, or Surya Namaskar. When I first started regularly practicing yoga, Sun Salutations left me feeling breathless and uncoordinated! As I practiced, I started understanding how my body felt in each pose. I noticed I felt stronger. And one day, I noticed how each pose aligned with my breath. It became more meditative. More magical. More love.

Surya translates to source of wisdom and spiritual enlightenment. The sun is our source of warmth, providing for the land as well as our overall wellbeing. Historically, the sun has been honored as the teacher. Sun Salutations were a practice of both connection and gratitude.

If you can’t get a full yoga practice in, try a couple rounds of sun salutations to refill your cup. You will find it will activate balance, both in the physical and subtle bodies. And when you’re done, stay in mountains pose for a few breaths and notice that sense of inner peace and balance.

Benefits: Strengthens muscles and nerves in the chest, back, arms, and shoulders, and improves spine and back flexibility. Reduce anxiety and tension.

Every day presents a choice. You can focus on the problem or the possibility. Complain or find gratitude. Live in fear or faith. But the key to being able to practice the latter is making time for you. Making time to look around in the moment with intention. The brain will find whatever it is seeking.

What are you seeking today?

The beauty of having a body is you get to move it any way that feels good for you. Movement fills my cup. And most days, finding a few minutes to move clears my head, fills my cup and can be the perfect reset for my day.

What movement fills your cup?

Friday sometimes feels like the race to the finish line. At the end of a long week we need to pause, breathe and decide what we want to carry into the weekend. Finding time or space to reset as we move into the weekend takes intention.

What are some ways you reset from the week to allow you to move into the weekend in a good space?

Happy Wellness Wednesday!! Building resiliency takes effort. It’s managing difficulties but bouncing back. We learn how to bounce back with practice. Often, we spend lots of time doing and going and moving. Sometimes we’re so focused on getting things done and checking off the to do list, we don’t notice our exhaustion. When your cup feels empty, nothing feels sustainable. It’s so much harder to have that bounce back-ability.

Replenishing and refilling your cup fosters resilience. It allows you to be more present. Refilling your cup helps you bounce back from life’s speed bumps with more ease.

How are you fostering an environment that allows for emotional resilience?

Moving your body with your breath calms the mind, reduces stress, and enhances mental clarity. Regular practice improves mood, and promotes mindfulness and cognitive function. By focusing on alignment and breath, yogis of all ages and levels develop better body awareness and balance, which helps prevent injury, and also builds, strengthens, and tones muscles to increase range of motion and improve posture.

March is the time to refill us. Reconnect, replenish. Because we cannot give if our cup is empty. Taking the time to refill your cup only makes you more available to share your light with those around you.

For today, take a couple deep breaths and reflect:
🌱 “What gives me energy I can return to?”
🌱 “What replenishes me consistently?”
🌱 "What makes me feel full?"

Jot down your top 3. Which one will you work into your week ahead?

In our culture of doing, sleep is underestimated. The quality of your sleep has a direct correlation to the quality of your mental health.

😴Sleep loss hinders our brain’s ability to process emotions, leading to increased irritability and stress, and decreased ability to practice and utilize coping tools.

😴Poor or not enough sleep causes brain fog, poor concentration, memory issues, and decreased decision-making abilities.

😴 Chronic sleep deprivation can exacerbate or potentially trigger already existing mental health disorders.

Ways to improve sleep:
😴 Establish a bedtime routine
😴 Maintain a consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends.
😴 Reduce screen time and blue light exposure before bed to boost melatonin production.
😴 Seek Treatment: Techniques to address any underlying mental health issues
