On the 25th day of Success Stories…

Donny reflected & shared!

ā€œHi HRC! Donny here, let’s get into a bit of a reflection shall we? Throughout my nearly two decades of health and fitness route I have tried everything under the sun exercise and diet related all with the hopes to finding what felt natural and sustainable to me. I have taken small pieces of each practice that I liked and molded it into my very own thing built around the foundation of logging food. From the years of coaching and personal experimenting I have found one consistency, everything works if you do it correctly and for a long enough period of time. That’s what I love most about the healthy route, it isn’t black or white there isn’t a BEST anything, it’s just finding what works best for you and doing the work. And that is my ultimate mission, to help educate you on the foundations of healthy living and help you build up from there based on what works for YOU.
Here's what I have conquered this year;
1. 19:18 5k
2. 500lbs squat, 325lbs bench press, 35 unbroken pull ups, 585lbs deadlift
3. 6% body fat without trying (sounds arrogant but it’s a huge accomplishment for me it means what I am doing works NATURALLY and SUSTAINABLY for me)
4. Learned how to pace and program for running and strength training
5. Read 12 self improvement books
6. Have achieved the most fit and strong body I have ever had in my life with the least amount of effort, things have just clicked

This year has been a huge one for me health wise. The biggest theme has been that most of my results have been achieved with a feeling of effortlessness. Yes, a s**t ton of discipline and habits and hard workouts but I have enjoyed every step of the way. Everytime I didn’t feel like doing something I asked myself, what’s the alternative? Every option you have infront of you leads to hard work, you either choose one route with great rewards or one with stress. But ultimately, we get to choose, even when you don’t think you do.ā€

On the 24th day of Success Stories…

Marisa reflected & shared!

Hi, Marisa here—the face behind Route of Healthy Living and .fitriss. Over the years, I’ve transitioned from training for the bodybuilding stage to training for LIFE—and helping others do the same!
My mission has always been to inspire, especially women, to build healthy habits. It wasn’t until I let go of chasing the next fad that I discovered the power of sustainable living. The key? Building systems that align with your lifestyle create habits that last a lifetime.
As a wellness coach, personal trainer, and advocate for sustainable living, I’ve made it my daily intention to live the route of healthy living while aspiring others to do the same.

My goal is to help men and women become the best versions of themselves through sustainable habits and intentional living.

2024 Health Highlights:
✨ Completed my 16th TransPHORMation Challenge, logging more days than ever!
✨ Preserved lean muscle tissue and kept fat off.
✨ Progressed in strength: Shoulder Press (40s) and Pull-Ups (13 nonstop MAX)... Squat PR—stay tuned!
✨ Ran weekly 5Ks pain-free after overcoming compartment syndrome and two leg surgeries in 2014.
✨Overcame a wrist injury with commitment & consistent self-rehab exercises
✨ Prioritized sleep and embraced my Fitbit Bear chronotype for October!
✨ Helped countless women build confidence and sustainable habits.
This year has been nothing short of reward. I’m incredibly grateful for the privilege of guiding clients—both online and in our fitness studio—toward achieving their goals while fostering a community that chooses their own route to health and fitness.
Here’s to a sustainable and successful 2025! I’ll continue building healthier habits for myself while sharing my knowledge and passion with my thriving Route of Healthy Living community."

As Christmas Eve reminds us of hope and possibilities, let Marisa’s story inspire you to finish 2024 strong and step into 2025 ready to achieve your goals!!!

On the 23rd day of Success Stories…

Amanda & Albie reflected & shared!

ā€œWe started our journey a little late this year. Our son was born on May 22, 2024. We knew that life was going to change, but also that we were going to have a lot of time on our hands both on paternity and maternity leave. We took the time to spend together as a new family but also to better ourselves. We want Maverick to grow up in a healthy family and be able to look at his parents and do things the right way. We both lost a ton of weight the right way while on leave. However, towards the end, going back to work, I realized it wasn’t going to be that easy with way less time at home. The new goal was to spend as much time together as possible. For me, with my schedule, that meant quality of time over quantity of time. I make the best of the time I have with my wife and son working crazy hours plus overtime. We’re ending the year on a good note though! I get to spend Mav’s first Christmas at home together as a little family instead of having to work!

We have been with the Route of Healthy Living for years now. They do so much for their health and fitness community. The transformation challenges are a fun way to push everyone to get into the game and create a lifestyle and not just a quick couple week fitness change. They help you create goals and stick to them long term!

If you find yourself wanting to check them out, definitely make an appointment to see them at their studio and check out the InBody scan! It’s a scale but 1000% better. If gives you readings of everything in your body from body fat% in certain areas or specific body parts, to your muscle weight and even your percentage of water. It’s a pretty cool system! My wife and I spent 2 hours there the other day talking about our scans in depth.

Donny and Marisa take the time to be so knowledgeable about everything they do and everything they offer, and if they don’t know the answer to a question, they don’t BS you, they’ll find the answer for you and get back to you asap! I highly recommend them for anything health and fitness!ā€

Amanda & Albie, we LOVE having you apart of the Healthy Route Community & (it has been an honor to be apart of your routes, & now we look up to the two of you in parenting watching you be the best role models for Mav 🩵)

ā€œI started this journey tired of the on and off dieting. I needed something sustainable, needed to learn how to live better. I started at 206 pounds, I am currently 189. The last few months the scale hasn't moved much, which can be discouraging. But after comparing my body scans showed great progress fat loss and muscle gain which is huge! The scale is not always the best measure for success. If I can do it anyone can do it! I have 3 kids, work full time, went to college full time all while on this journey. We all have 24 hours in a day, and it's solely up to you how you utilize your time!ā€

Sam from afar; we are so very proud of the dedication in everything you do, wearing many roles with many different seasons. We appreciate how coachable and communicative you are! Here's to a successful & Sustainable 2025!!

Krista reflected & shared!

My why is my family! I choose to continue for my son and for my growing family. I want to be at my best physically, mentally, and spiritually for my family. To be at my best, I have to !

Having a rare congenital heart defect has given me perspective on the impermanence of life and how important my choices are for my health. I have always lived proactively versus reactively to ensure the longevity of my life! I want to inspire my children and those around me to show up every day even through the hard.

Each day I am motivated by Riss, Rocky, and the entire Healthy Route Community! When I am feeling unmotivated, I pull up this community and pull from all the inspiring individuals that are choosing their healthy route! The Healthy Route Community has kept me accountable to keep choosing the hard!

In 2024, life has thrown a balance of happy and hard at me. I am proud that I have continued healthy habits and focused on that happy! With the help of movement, mediation, and breathwork - I have reduced stress from the hard and focused on the happy!

Krista, we thank YOU for always showing up for your health AND us your community. From close or afar you show up when you can bringing the positivite light and energy to your surroundings.

ā€œ I joined ROHL 3 years ago. I had my third baby and C-section. I wanted to get my muscle and core strength back. Working with Marisa once a week has been an amazing experience. I have great balance and strength to carry my now big toddler. I lost weight in a healthy way. I can wear nice summer dresses that I wasn’t able to before.
I am looking forward to continued success in my fitness journey with Marisa in 2025!ā€

Gunja, Thank YOU for Choosing Route of Healthy Living as you continue to build strength to hold your babies and so much more! Continue setting this time aside for YOU so you can show up as your best self toward othersšŸ¤—

On the 19th day of Success Stories…

Susan reflected & shared!

ā€œI’ve always been very active, running, hiking, cycling, playing various sports, but I noticed my muscle mass was not quite where it used to be, so I did a Google search for local training and Route of Healthy Living popped up. I planned on going for a couple of months to jumpstart my strength training and then take it from there. That was almost 4 years ago, and I am still a twice-weekly client! So much has changed over the last 4 years, but one thing that’s consistent are my 6 am workouts with Donny!

Almost two years ago, I was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. I underwent intense surgery followed by chemo and ongoing maintenance infusions. I attribute my recovery from major surgery and tolerance of chemo to my level of physical conditioning, to Donny and the Route he’s created for me. I appreciate all he’s done as we’ve had to modify my workouts depending on my treatment schedule. I also appreciate a fellow client of Donny’s who has been very gracious to swap days with me when needed based on how I was feeling throughout treatment. It’s more than a place to train, it’s a community. Thank you for everything over the last 4 years! 2025 here we come!ā€

Susan, you are a warrior! Nothing is stopping or slowing you down & it’s because your continued mindset. You truly are an inspiration for the rest of the community. Continue to show up focusing on what you can control. You are one strong woman; inside AND out šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

Steve, Reflected and Shared!

ā€œThank you to Marisa for all her support as my trainer. My frequent work travel could be really disruptive to my health and workout routine. So I really appreciated that Marisa would mix in virtual workouts so that I always kept up with my fitness even when I was traveling! And in June this year, I did a sprint triathlon which is something I haven’t done in several years!ā€

Wow Steve, what a HUGE goal accomplished in 2024. Very admirable toward your commitment even while away for work. Thank you for CHOOSING Route of Healthy Living!

On the 17th day of Success Stories…

Grace reflected & shared!

ā€œYou guys have done so much for me this summer it’s insane I really couldn’t thank you more. I wouldn’t be in this good of a head space and more prepared and feeling good without you...ā€ was the message Grace sent us on the way back to her senior year of college šŸ’ƒšŸ¼

She made so much progress in the short summer months she was home but focused on SUSTAINABLE HABIT BUILDING to take with her back to school.
Grace has taken what she learned from her on site workouts & brought that confidence into her own gym to continue strength training AND added in weekly F45 classes (choosing the hard, if you’ve ever heard of those classes they are HARD) haha. She puts in the effort to prepare food to stay away from cafe food (because it does not make her tummy feel good), & prioritizes her gut health with supplements knowing that 80% of her immune system is in her gut!

A recap from her 2024šŸ™ƒ

Grace came to us at the start of her summer break away from college with the goal to lose body fat, build muscle, gain more knowledge inside the gym, along side of building a better relationship with food without severe restrictions. We started with an inBody scan to find a baseline of where she was at to begin creating a nutrition and exercise plan. From her initial scan you can see in her ā€œMuscle-Fat Analysisā€ segment she began as what we call a ā€œCā€ shape. This snapshot tells us that she does need to lose a small amount of fat and build some good quality muscle to move in a much healthier direction.
Through her summer break, she had been able to drop from 40.1lbs of fat to 32.8lbs of fat (7.3 LBS!!) while also building almost one entire lbs. of muscle!
Who said you can’t lose fat and build muscle at the same time?! Even more importantly, her visceral fat (the really bad fat) went down from level 6 to level 5 which tells us she is successfully building the habits needed to continue moving in the right direction, losing FAT and not just WEIGHT.

We cannot wait to have Grace back inside the fitness studio as a college graduate oh so soon!!!

On the 16th day of Success Stories…

Pete reflected & shared!

ā€œ4 years ago I walked into the newly opened gym and introduced myself to Donny. He and Marisa were just starting to get their new business up and running and I was looking for a new fitness option which was close to home. I started that week and have not looked back since. Having a 6am time slot allows me to prioritize working out 3-days a week before the craziness of my work day and personal life starts.

Over the past 4 years, our approach to working out has changed with the ups and downs of daily life. Not everyday has been hitting a PR in my workouts…many days we have had to pivot and address the aches and pains that life throws at us. Regardless, Donny’s approach to total wellness has been incredible every step of the way.

My biggest challenge thus far was when 2 different doctors told me that I needed rotator cuff surgery. After 3 cortisone shots and no relief in the pain, Donny recommended that we make a change to our training and try to the address the issues with strength and mobility exercises. Having stuck with it I am happy to say that 2 years later I have not only avoided surgery, but have regained the ability to pitch baseball to my sons and lift weights as I did prior.

Donny and Marisa are so knowledgeable and committed to wellness, while also being wonderful caring people.ā€

Thank you Pete for not only reflecting & sharing but being a big part of ROHL since day one– 4 years ago. Bring on 2025 & PRs šŸ˜‰

On the 15th day of Success Stories…

Ana reflected & shared!

ā€œIn the Summer of 2023 , I was diagnosed with a pre diabetic A1C level. My doctor recommended I consult a nutritionist, lose some weight and increase my exercise routine. At that time, I was attending a Boot Camp class (mostly cardio) 2-3 times per week.
Despite exercising , I was overweight and had a high BMI for my age, height and weight. These findings gave me a "wake up call!"
I realized my approach to leading a healthier lifestyle needed to include changing several things!

In October of 2023, I reached out to Marisa at Route of Healthy Living, for personal training. Training one on one with Marisa
taught me many things, such as proper water intake, correct exercise form, and most importantly macro counting, also choosing healthy foods, proper portions and supplements. Currently, my A1C has dropped to a lower non pre diabetic number. My weight and visceral fat body composition has also improved tremendously!!

Marisa's support, encouragement and overall positive energy has paved the way to a healthier and stronger life for me! There is no trainer that can compare to her dedication and expertise helping her clients.

I am so glad I reached out and am looking forward to continuing my journey with Marisa in 2025!!ā€

Ana, we look forward to having your energy inside the studio each time! Continue to prioritize your health & continue to prove-- age is just a number!! Thank you for CHOOSING Route of Healthy Living.
