Making my first copper distilled hydrosol with the last of the roses 🌹 from our harvest this year. Nothing like enjoying the essence of things long gone by at a later time. Rose hydrosol makes a beautiful healing and slightly astringent facial toner. I also use it as a room spray or body mist on hot summer days.

CALENDULA is an incredible healer for wounds, infections and stagnation and carries sunshine to places where no light can reach. This sunny helps heal deep and festering wounds as well as scratches, cuts, scrapes and burns. It is a strong anti inflammatory and has anti-fungal properties both topically and internally. Calendula tea is a wonderful ally after surgery and can ease yeast infections in a sitz bath. The oil helps heal stretch marks after pregnancy, soothe sore breastfeeding ni***es and protects baby’s t**h from diaper rash. The applications are endless and I keep learning more ways to bring this beauty into someone’s healing journey. I love blending several varieties for a most beautiful palette of orange and yellow hues in tea blends.

🌹 ROSE GLYCERITE

Every year our rose glycerite comes in a slightly different shade of pink. Sometimes I add darker roses from a friend’s garden or white roses to add the very special subtle taste. This particular batch has the most stunning color and a really nice deep rose aroma.

Join us for a very special morning of broom making with all natural, original materials with Poliana Danila. A handcrafted broom can open or close ritual circles and keeps an old tradition alive. Brooms make an extraordinarily effective Sweeper, Medicine Lymph Brush, Altar piece and a beautiful Art piece for the wall.

Since Poliana was a child she has found that working with her hands, with natural elements, fibers, plants, stones, water as well as gardening, cooking, knotting, weaving brings her the deepest peace and healing. Brooms are essential to one’s home. She remembers vividly her grandmothers using the besom made of twigs and her mom using large goose or duck wings to sweep the fireplace hearths.

When you sit down to make or create something, you become more embodied, and the stresses of trying to just simply be in this modern industrialized world begin to fade away. In these moments you can feel the way your ancestors would sit, pray, sing and laugh together while doing this work. You can see the magic and beauty that can be woven into our everyday tools and materials and how that deeply gives life to our spirits.

💚 “OUR GREEN RELATIONS” RETREAT JULY 19-21

I just returned from an incredible trip to Ausangate, a most revered mountain spirit by the Q’ero people in the high Andes in Peru. The Q’ero Paqo elders (Earth priests), who guided our journey and shared their teachings so generously, hold deep love and reverence for the Earth in their hearts.

Love, unconditional love, kindness, care, compassion, devotion, understanding, forgiveness - all these expressions are expressed in a single word in Quechua - MUNAY. One of the most beautiful teachings we received during this soul searching and heart opening journey is the understanding that on the most basic energetic level, MUNAY is the energy that can touch and transform everything - people, animals, plants, water, stones, trees, the elements, and all else.

Coming back to Raven Crest, I am looking forward to sharing these experiences and teachings with you during Our Green Relations retreat on July 19-21.

Have you asked a plant for permission to harvest and received a clear answer? Did you ever introduce yourself to a body of water before swimming in it? Have you infused your herbal remedies with love and care for the people who will receive your medicine offerings?

These rituals and offerings deepen our connection with nature and allow a glimpse into the subtle energies that can be felt when we become quiet and focused enough to hear the Earth speak through the other-than-human world.

Together we will sit in sacred council, harvest medicinal herbs that flourish in our garden, make love infused herbal medicine, offer a despacho to the Earth, enjoy the medicine of cacao, stories and music around a bonfire, make flower essences, braid sweetgrass and bless the waters. You will have space to enjoy our swimming ponds, stroll the gardens and take in all the beauty at the peak of summer.

💚 Come share this beautiful weekend with my amazing friend and herbalist Samuel Perry and me, and experience a new level of connection with yourself and pachamama. We will immerse ourselves deeply in the green world and let MUNAY flow freely between all beings in the garden.

Our earth sheltered greenhouse in her prettiest look, clad in drying petals of rose and Mauritian mallows. 💜 For two precious weeks around the summer solstice do we harvest these two stunning blossoms together. What we don’t dry is made into tinctures, honeys and glycerites.

Ah roses! It has begun. For precious two weeks we will collect baskets pull of beautiful fragrant flowers in the morning, accompanied by bird song and buzzing bees. Separating the butterfly light petals from the center is a soul feeding task. They will be dried in our earth sheltered greenhouse and blended into delicious teas. Some will be made into tincture, glycerite, honey, oil and hydrosol and raise the vibration in our remedies and plant based skin care. This is a true highlight of being an herb farmer. 💕
