We think Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome really isn’t so rare—and it is misdiagnosed! We suspect it’s quite common and can be more than 50% of an outpatient physical therapist’s caseload!

Chronic pain. Extra-flexible joints. Stretchy skin. These are just some of the symptoms of the debilitating genetic disorder that’s incredibly hard to diagnose.

Dr. Marilyn Moffat, professor of physical therapy at New York University in New York, New York, told Fox News Digital,
"The sad fact is that we go into physical therapy with a major desire to improve the lives of the people we serve … and the rewards at the end make meeting the costs of living and paying off student debt difficult at best."

Outpatient physical therapist practices are experiencing severe staff shortages, according to a recent report by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). PTs weigh in on the situation.

‘As many patients seeking an appointment can attest, the nationwide shortage of PTs is real.

Medicare has cut reimbursement rates to Physical Therapists for four years straight. According to the American Physical Therapy Association, that would bring the cuts to a total of 9% over four years…falling behind the rate of inflation.’

Most commercial insurance plans haven’t raised rates in 20 years!

The current number of therapists falls short of increasing demand.
