Did You Know: Aspirin: The Wonder Drug
It helps inflammation, fever and it can even save your life (from a heart attack)…
It’s Aspirin! And it has often been called a wonder drug, partly because it is a powerful and effective treatment for many health problems. Plus, after several clinical trials, aspirin began to be marketed as a preventive treatment for secondary heart attacks and then, even for prevention of primary heart attacks and strokes!
Diarmuid Jeffreys, author of the book “ASPIRIN, The Story Of A Wonder Drug,” describes aspirin as, among other things, “the most remarkable drug the world has ever seen,” “one of the astonishing inventions in history,” and “one of the most endurably successful commercial products of all time.” Such claims are well substantiated.
Recent studies demonstrate aspirin's potentially preventive effect on different types of cancer by blocking the production of the enzymes that increase inflammation in your body and speed or assist the growth of cancer cells.
Of course, like any medication, you should always consult your pharmacist or physician before beginning an un-supervised regimen for daily use. Our pharmacist will be happy to discuss this little pill with you and if a daily low aspirin dosage might be beneficial for you!

Back-to-School Medication Inventory
Back-to-school is an ideal time to take inventory of your family's healthcare needs and review your medicine cabinet. Check for medications beyond expiration dates, which may lose potency or become tainted, as well as any meds that don’t appear to have their original color or smell.
Particularly pay close attention to liquid medications and eye drops, which often are subject to more bacterial growth. A good rule to follow is that if you’re not sure, trash it!
And remember, bathroom cabinets are not the best environment for storing medications because of the heat and humidity generated from showers and hot baths. A better choice is to store medications in a cool, dry, dark place like inside a linen closet.

It's That Time Of Year Again… Hay Fever Season!
Hay fever – or allergic rhinitis – is a seasonal allergy that can cause the eyes to water, nose to run, throat to itch, and lungs to feel tight. It can be triggered by pollen, mostly from fall weeds, ragweed, and other seasonal plants.
Hay fever can normally be controlled by using our pharmacist-recommended over-the-counter allergy medications such as antihistamines and nasal sprays that contain corticosteroid. Unfortunately, there is no one best medicine for Hay Fever relief since each person reacts differently to medications. So be sure to discuss over-the-counter, prescription, and immunotherapy options with our pharmacist to find the right meds for the best outcome for you or a family member.

Generic Drugs Cost Much Less than Brands. But Are They As Effective?
1. Active Ingredient:
• The FDA requires generics to have the exact same active ingredient as the brand-name drug, which is the component that produces the therapeutic effect.
• In addition to the same active ingredient in the same dosage, Generic drugs must contain the same form and route of administration as the brand-name drug.
2. Effectiveness and Safety:
• For the consumer’s protection, the FDA ensures that generic drugs are bioequivalent to their brand-name counterparts.
• This means they must have the same therapeutic effect, meaning they are just as safe and effective as the original medication.

Get Moving During TV Commercials!
The average commercial-minutes per hour is 14-18 minutes. That’s just enough time to hop off the couch and squeeze in a little exercise.
Turn those commercial breaks into mini exercise sessions!
Many people just start channel surfing during commercials. Or even worse, they hop up and grab a snack. Instead, why not get up and move around a bit. You’ll get your heart rate up and get that digestion moving after you’ve been sitting with a full belly watching TV.
Try walking in place during commercial breaks. These short exercise segments can add up to walking around 2,000 steps and an average of 148 calories burned!
Doing this simple walking in place during the commercials guarantees a healthy dose of cardio during 60 minutes of television viewing. This type of exercise is not extreme and can be done by anyone in fairly good health. Just perform at your own speed and build up as you can.
And, don’t stop until your show comes back on (you may never have realized how long those commercial breaks are).
