Buck the day we brought him home. He was 8 weeks old. That was 6-1/2 weeks ago! He has grown so much since then, and this photo almost hurts because, while there were times when life with a puppy was overwhelming (this is Loretta), the love we have for this little guy is unreal, and he is simply growing up way too fast. On another note: What an amazing dog! Buck is an English Shepherd. They come in many colors: Clear Sables, Tri-Colors, Black & White, Brindle, Red Sable, Shaded Sables, to name a few. He is a Shaded Sable. He has a "Shepherd's Lantern" on the tip of his tail. It is a white tip that has been said will lead the flock home at twilight while their tail is lifted - like a lit beacon in the falling darkness to follow. A hundred years ago this was the #1 family dog. (At least that is what we heard) And that is no surprise as they are extremely versatile, though they are mainly a herding breed. They can be taught to flush birds, track, trained for search & rescue, agility, and of course, herding. They are a wonderful dog that is highly intelligent, slightly emotionally reserved and can be a touch stoic, but very loving and emotionally intelligent. They are not hyper and high-strung, but active and love stimulation, puzzles, and to be engaged. We felt they were the perfect breed for us and it seems to be the case! Buck will probably be about 65 pounds when fully mature. He is 20 pounds now. In this pic he was 10-1/2 pounds. I will show updated photos soon 🐢

My good friend Ralph has been a great resource to me over the years. The first year my wife and I started our company we contracted a small woodlot to cut, and we hired he and his skidder to help with the project. We have used Ralph and his skidder several times in the last ten years, but six years ago or so he mentioned that he had another piece of equipment that could be used for a small lot clearing project I had him look at. He called it a "tractor" like many of the old timers around here often do. When he said he would bring his tractor to pull out these 90' tall, 28'' diameter White Pines I was skeptical. But being the young buck, I wisely deferred to the old bull's judgement. When I saw him pull up with his 3/4 ton pickup hauling his "tractor" on a meager equipment trailer my skepticism remained, until I saw him winch the first tree. From then on he and his tractor have become my secret weapon for low impact, often times tight spaced logging/lot clearing jobs. I'm grateful to help keep that thing alive as it doesn't get any use other than the time or two a year I call on him to help me with a job. And I'm happy to continue to work alongside a veteran logger who has much to teach and little interest to insinuate himself enough to do so.

View enhancement project for a valued customer...we cut a pulp-truck load of spruce logs, and chipped all the brush. Luckily, his driveway was big enough for a landing and we still had ample room to process everything. I have worked with my friend Ralph for almost ten years now and I call him at least once a year to utilize either his skidder or his old 49' bulldozer. This video shows the dozer in action. Enjoy!

A little Before & After...As you can see in this photo, this large, leaning Silver Maple needed to be removed to preserve - and not compromise - the structure of this building. We carefully took this tree down, debris and chips were hauled away for biomass, and firewood was cut up and left for their use. Nothing was wasted, and problem was solved! We thank them for trusting us with this removal, and for the work! Erin & Garin are not only excellent customers, they are hard-working, intelligent people that will do a fantastic job as the new owners of this exciting business venture! We wish you the best of luck, guys!

What's the reward for a long season of tree work? More tree work, just slightly more arduous. Luckily, we have some nice equipment to rely on, and more importantly, some stoic employees who would rather grind it out than resort to the comfort of some well-deserved unemployment benefits. Truth be told, a little hiatus from the normal toils becomes very appealing to me this time of year, but as long as our boys are game to press on, then so shall I be. Enjoy the content, there is more to come!
