New Year’s Eve is a time for celebration, laughter, and fireworks—but for families with neurodivergent children, planning the perfect way to kick off 2025 can sometimes spark disagreements.

For example, one parent might want to celebrate surrounded by friends and family, while the other worries about sensory overload and the impact on their child. Both perspectives come from a place of love, but finding common ground can be tricky.

Mediation provides a structured way to work through these concerns together so you both can align on a plan that respects your child’s needs while allowing everyone to feel heard. Let’s work together to make your New Year celebration and all the special days that come afterward more comfortable and enjoyable for your whole family.

The first holiday season after a divorce can feel overwhelming, especially when kids are involved. If you and your co-parent are feeling the stress of coordinating plans across two homes, your kids are likely feeling it too.

Instead of letting these conversations turn into arguments, mediation offers a way to work through these decisions together. From deciding where the kids will spend each holiday to managing new traditions, mediation helps you focus on creating solutions that work for everyone—most importantly, your children.

Let’s make the holiday season and the special days to come less stressful and more enjoyable for your family. Contact me today for a FREE consultation: (301) 485-9272

As a dad of neurodivergent kids, I’ve had the screen time debate. It’s one of those topics that every parent seems to wrestle with. Everyone swears they won’t let their kids use screens for hours… until they have kids. And for families with neurodivergent children, the challenge of balancing screen use can feel even more complicated.

Maybe one parent sees screen time as a helpful tool—whether it’s for calming sensory overload or exploring new interests—while the other worries about overuse or potential dependency.

This is where mediation can help. It’s not about choosing one side over the other; it’s about finding a way to merge differing opinions into a plan that works for everyone—especially your child.

Where do you stand on screen time for kids? Share your take in the comments!

Just because the kids are older doesn’t mean the squabbles are over—they’ve just changed. Instead of fighting over toys, adult siblings might now argue about:

⭐ Who’s hosting the holiday dinner?
⭐ Do we have to invite the new boyfriend?
⭐ Who’s going to make Grandma’s famous pecan pie?

Tension between siblings can quickly drain the joy out of the holidays. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Mediation offers a structured way to smooth things over, find common ground, and maybe even start a new, more enjoyable tradition together.

Feeling the holiday stress already? Let’s talk about how mediation can help your family get back on track.

During week, I’m reminded of a story my friend Tim once shared with me.

Before we knew each other, Tim faced the tough challenge of convincing his elderly father to stop driving. His dad, dealing with mobility issues and declining eyesight, refused to hand over the keys. Every time the subject came up, it led to a heated argument, leaving everyone frustrated.

Unfortunately, it took a car accident for his father to finally stop driving—an accident that sent his wife to the hospital. Thankfully, everyone recovered, but the family wished it hadn’t taken such a serious event to reach that point.

If you’ve faced—or are currently facing—a situation like this, you’re not alone. These conversations are hard, but mediation can help. By creating a structured, respectful process, mediation gives every voice a chance to be heard, reducing stress and helping families move forward with a clear plan.

If there’s a difficult family discussion you’re avoiding, let’s talk about how mediation can help. Call me today at (301) 485-9272 for a FREE consultation.

Determining the "right" or "best fit" education path for your child is important for any family, but it becomes even more crucial for families with special needs kids. With so many supports, enhancements, special education programs, and options to consider—each varying in scope, focus, location, price, fit, and quality—it’s no surprise that navigating these decisions can understandably create stress between parents.

As a parent of neurodivergent kids, I’ve experienced this firsthand. And as a mediator, I’ve seen how difficulties working through decisions like these can impact not just the parents but also the children they’re doing their best to support.

This is where I can help. My role as a mediator isn’t to tell you which support to engage or special education program is best. It’s to support you in working together as a team—creating options you both can get behind—and crafting a plan that helps you reach a decision, together.

Better Conversation Week: Improving Communication for Parents & Co-Parents

In the day-to-day of parenting, it’s easy for civil conversations to spiral into arguments. Whether you’re co-parenting or tackling daily challenges together, how you handle those tough conversations can leave a lasting impression on your kids.

Your children may not remember every issue, but they’ll remember how you resolved them. Were you able to work through things as a team, or did discussions end in conflict?

Mediation offers a structured approach for parents to step back and approach difficult conversations with respect and collaboration. It helps you focus on your child’s well-being and sets up a healthier dynamic for both parents.

As we mark Better Conversation Week, it’s the perfect time to reflect on communication and work toward improvement. If you’re feeling stuck in conflict cycles, mediation could be the fresh start you need. Let’s talk—call (301) 485-9272 for a FREE consultation.

Keeping Family Business Stress in Check This Black Friday

With Black Friday approaching, I know how easily tensions can rise in family businesses. Preparing for sales can bring up tough questions: Do we need extra staff to handle demand? Should we focus on discounts or highlight our unique offerings?

It’s easy for these conversations to escalate—especially under holiday pressures. And when business disagreements spill over into family time, it affects everyone.

Mediation provides a neutral, structured way to address these types of challenges—which can be particularly activating during the holidays. It allows each family member to voice their concerns, work toward practical solutions, and keep the focus on what matters—both in business and in family.

If your family business feels the strain this season, let’s connect. Mediation can help keep your holiday preparations on track and family relationships strong. Call (301) 485-9272 for a FREE consultation.

Supporting Neurodivergent Kids in School: National American Education Week

Navigating the school system with a neurodivergent child can feel overwhelming—whether you’re communicating with teachers, professionals, or aligning as parents. As a parent of neurodiverse children, I understand how these challenges impact the whole family.

This National American Education Week, let’s reflect on the importance of understanding and advocating for our children’s unique needs.

A common issue parents face is explaining to teachers that simply telling a child to “try harder” isn’t helpful. For a child already putting in their best but struggling in unseen ways, this can feel defeating—for them and for you.

Many educators aren’t trained to recognize neurodiverse learning needs, so it’s essential for parents to align in their advocacy. Mediation supports proactive problem-solving, helping parents come together as cohesive advocates for their child. When parents and professionals collaborate effectively, children truly benefit.

If you’re struggling to align as parents or communicate with your child’s school, mediation can help. Contact me for a FREE consultation at (301) 485-9272 to discuss how we can support your child’s journey.

Celebrating National Family Civility Day

As the holidays approach, it’s a great time to reflect on how we navigate family dynamics. Take Thanksgiving planning as an example. Imagine this: you’re preparing for Thanksgiving at your sister’s, and her new husband insists on following his family’s traditions—introducing a different menu that leaves everyone (even your sister) a bit puzzled.

Tensions rise as family members weigh in—strongly—and the planning mood quickly shifts from celebration to frustration.

Family mediation can help cut off planning stress before things reach a boiling point. It provides a structured way for everyone to express their feelings and work through differing traditions and expectations without conflict. Instead of letting resentment build, it allows families to come together with understanding, creating a harmonious atmosphere for all.

If your family is facing challenges this holiday season, consider mediation to ease tension and foster connection. Let’s work together to keep family gatherings filled with love and laughter. Reach out at (301) 485-9272 for a FREE consultation.

Happy National Family Civility Day!

Why Choose Mediation Over Litigation for Divorce?

Life’s busy enough—juggling family, work, and personal commitments can be overwhelming. That’s why mediation can be a game-changer for divorcing couples.

Here’s why: Mediation is faster, more affordable, and with our flexible online sessions, it’s convenient too. Unlike the court process, mediation focuses on solutions, not picking sides. It’s about moving beyond “either/or” thinking to find “AND” solutions that work for everyone—so each person’s needs are addressed.

Best of all, you stay in control. You and your partner make the decisions, not a judge. This empowering approach leads to quicker, more tailored resolutions and helps you build tools to navigate future challenges.

Choose mediation to avoid the stress and expense of litigation. Reach out today to see how it can make a difference for you: (301) 485-9272.
