I’m leading another Oasis course, “How Phones Impact Our Personal Relationships And Our Mood And What To Do About It”📱🫂

🗓️ Monday, May 11
⏰ 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
📍 Oasis at Macy’s Home Store - Bethesda, MD
🎟️ Tickets will be on https://washington-metro.oasiseverywhere.org soon!

“Smartphones and social media are meant to improve our lives and help connect people. Because of their proliferation and constant presence, phones sometimes hamper our ability to be fully present with those that we love. Given that phones provide a constant influx of information they can be overwhelming and, at times, depressing and anxiety producing. We’ll talk about ways to use phones so they serve our individual purposes while also being mindful of their pitfalls.”

Leave a comment if you plan on attending the session, and let me know something you hope to learn about our phone’s impact on our relationships & moods🩵⬇️

Making Friends As An Adult👥

As we get older, it can be hard to make, keep, and grow our friendships💗

➡️This is because we don’t have the same anchors & connections that made friendship easier when we were younger.

I mentioned the other day I started taking a belly dancing class, and I’m building friendships with the other people in my class.

💡💡How? I invited my classmates to come watch a live belly dancing show with me!

It was so fun going to the show, and getting to know these ladies, their partners, and one of their sons on a more personal level!

✅ Pushing it the step beyond just having class together builds friendships, so now we’re more than mere acquaintances.

Let me know in the comments something you do to make and keep friends as an adult!

‼️Also, I’ll be holding an Oasis class on this topic, “Building Meaningful Connections As We Age,” on June 8th from 11-12:30 PM, so keep that on your radar!

🤲🏻Happiness Tip: Give Back & Volunteer

One of the ways I do this is I work as an unpaid Assistant Professor and a Psychosocial Educator at The George Washington Medical School.

🎓Now, the first cohort of 9 students that I’ve been working with since they started medical school, will be graduating in a couple weeks!

I’ve absolutely loved my time getting to know them. It’s a very bittersweet moment—I’m so excited for them and I’m also sad to see them go!💕

To show my appreciation for them & celebrate all of their hard work I had some of them over for dinner the other day.

I’d love to hear about all the ways that you volunteer or give back! Let me know in the comments below!⬇️

🧠Learn from your mistakes!

People are going to make mistakes. In life, we all make mistakes.

Mistakes aren’t the problem, it’s how we handle the mistakes that really matters ✅
So let’s make sure to handle them the right way:

😬Don’t be afraid to make mistakes
❤️‍🩹Forgive yourself & move on from mistakes
❌Don’t let shame from mistakes attach to our sense of self worth

⏩Keep moving forward, looking forward, and try to make things better by learning from our mistakes

Let me know in the comments one important lesson you’ve learned from making a mistake🩵⬇️

📚Nonfiction book club: Strangers by

Strangers was the second book we read & discussed in my nonfiction book club!

❤️‍🩹This book is also a divorce memoir, and it’s similar to Awake as both women were blindsided and it was the man’s actions that were the impetus to the breakup of their marriages.

🦠I liked how Belle weaved COVID into the story because I was personally in the process of blending a family during that time.

💭I also loved how she thought more about the potential signs & symptoms in her relationship, even though her and her husband seemed happily married, that lead to their breakup.

So, I encourage you to check out Strangers by Belle Burden, and let me know what you think in the comments!💙⬇️

✅Respect, boundaries, acceptance

These three things are the most important aspects on how to improve your relationship with your adult child/children as the older adult💗

1️⃣ Even if we don’t agree with our adult children’s choices, we have to respect them.

2️⃣ We have to respect the boundaries set by our adult children.

3️⃣ Wehave to accept the choices that they’ve made, and hopefully this acceptance will be reciprocated

I hope you found these tips helpful, and let me know any questions, challenges, or comments you have about creating healthy relationships with your adult children in the comments below!

What do you think about your male friendships?🚹

📝Andrew McCarthy wrote a memoir called, “Who Needs Friends: An Unscientific Examination of Male Friendship Across America,” all about male friendships. In his book, he travels across the country to visit old friends and writes about how those adventures went🌎

I have so many male clients, and I find they often struggle with friendships. I’ve also noticed as a married woman, I’ve lost a lot of my male / opposite s*x friendships since getting married - which I think is too bad! I really miss my male friendships!💙

🗓️Also, Andrew McCarthy is actually coming to Bethesda on April 13th to talk about his memoir, and I can’t wait to go to this event sponsored by Wonderland Books (my favorite women’s owned independent bookstore)!

Whether you’re a man or woman, I’m curious to know how you feel about your opposite s*x friendships? Let me know in the comments!⬇️

Sleep Shaming😴🛌

I was recently quoted the article, “The Problem With Sleep Right Now Is Shame About Sleep,” written by

🌘☀️The term “sleep shaming” describes when two people sleep together, and one person judges the other for their sleeping habits. It can be about whether they’re going to bed too early or too late, or waking up at the crack of dawn or sleeping in. It’s just this difference of opinion.

🗣️Sleep shaming can sound like, “Wow, you always go to bed so early,” or, “Geez, you’re always waking up so late.”

This problem is one of the most common complaints couples come to me about - for both men & women on both sides of the sleep spectrum - because there’s often judgement, attitude, or shaming underlying these comments.

🔗Here’s the link to the article, and I encourage you all to check it out! https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/relationships/sleep-shame-how-to-fix-e93dad35?reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink

Let me know in the comment if sleep shaming has happened in your relationships, and if so what have you found to solve it?💙⬇️
