Happy National Dog day!

We asked one of our Camp Hopers, Bethany, how having her service dog, Angel, has changed her life - check out her response below!

"To describe my life with a service dog I would say it is so extraordinary and incredible. My service dog, Angel, is the light in my life and gives me hope to continue fighting this battle everyday. Even after having the [TPIAT] surgery my battle is still not over. There are still the mental and emotional parts as well as managing my diabetes. It can all be too much sometimes but with Angel by my side I don’t have to do it alone. Angel does a great job alerting me of my fluctuating blood sugars and often detects them before my continuous glucose monitor. Sometimes I'm so dizzy from my low blood sugars and it makes me feel anxious. Angel helps me prevent that before it gets too bad and is always there to lend a helping hand (or paw). Angel can smell my blood sugar and will paw me to get my attention. This is especially important at night when I am sleeping - she will jump up on my bed to wake me up. Angel is a big part of my life, she goes everywhere with me and I am so proud to call her my service dog. Angel is the sweetest dog in the world and I know that is a little biased coming from me but she is my best friend and I love her with all my heart and soul. I don't know what I would do without her. She really is my guardian Angel!"

Huge shout out to Angel and all of the other service dogs out there for helping to keep our friends safe and healthy everyday! 🥰🦮

Our Story

The National Pancreas Foundation (NPF) raises and manages a charitable foundation from which grants are made directly to researchers seeking to resolve the challenging medical problems of pancreatic diseases. A support network is being developed for individuals suffering the isolating and debilitating conditions associated with pancreatic disease. The NPF and its founding members and volunteers are committed to maximum efficiency. The Foundation’s goal is to direct as much of our revenue to programs. To achieve this we rely heavily on the invaluable donations of time, energy and financial support of the many friends and interested parties who have been touched by the suffering of so many people. Research grant proposals from a wide variety of researchers are solicited. With the help of the Foundation’s Grant Review Council, the NPF makes grants to those whose proposals appear most likely to lead to scientific advancements in the field of pancreatic disease.
