Dr. Kelly Casperson’s biggest takeaway from the FDA meeting: women need a standardized, safe, FDA-approved testosterone—made specifically for women and covered by insurance. Let’s hope the FDA listens, because this is long overdue and much needed.

The FDA is considering adding a new warning to SSRIs in pregnancy—based on pre-clinical and observational data.
But decades of high-quality, peer-reviewed meta-analyses show that when confounding factors are removed, SSRIs are not associated with birth defects.

We don’t do placebo-controlled trials in pregnant women—but we do have strong evidence. And this move ignores that.

SSRIs aren’t perfect. They may be overprescribed. Patients may not be fully counseled. Let’s fix that—with education, not fear.
Because adding a warning based on weak evidence will increase stigma, frighten patients, and limit access to essential care.

🚨 Su***de is the leading cause of maternal death in the first postpartum year.
Women deserve support—not shame—for treating serious mental illness.

A heartfelt thank you to Bethesda Magazine for featuring the event and helping bring much-needed awareness to a life stage every woman experiences. Deprescribing is an important part of our approach to care. When clinically appropriate, we aim to reduce or discontinue medications to ensure you’re on the lowest effective dose or the fewest medications necessary.
