Cohen Health and Performance Physical Therapy and Performance Training to help you conquer pain and optimize performance

Physical therapy and performance training for those that take their health seriously

We believe that all active people deserve the high quality and individually focused care that is typically only reserved for elite athletes. Our mission is to enhance the lives of individuals who desire to live an active lifestyle by providing elite level physical therapy and performance training. This means that we treat you as an individual, rather than splitting time between 2-3 patients at one time. This helps you to overcome injury and return to performing at your highest level in the least amount of time!

Ten years ago, Cohen Health & Performance started as an idea in a small room, built on the belief that active people and athletes deserved the same level of care typically reserved for the professionals.

Fast forward to today: we have two incredible facilities, an amazing team, and a community that has trusted us to be part of their journey.

This past weekend in Punta Cana was more than just a trip. It was a chance to step back and appreciate what’s been built and, more importantly, who has built it.

As Zac said on the first night,
“I’ve always believed that if you bring amazing people together, great things will happen.”

That belief is the reason we’re here.

To our team, thank you for your commitment, your energy, and the standard you bring every single day. You are the reason CHP is what it is.

And to our patients, clients, and community, thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and allowing us to do what we love.

We don’t take that lightly.

Here’s to the first 10 years and everything ahead.

Winter sports are here ❄️ but your knees might not be ready for them 🎿🏂

Skiing and snowboarding put a ton of stress on your knees with every turn, landing, and stop. You might feel fine early… but by the end of the day (or next morning), the stiffness hits 😬
It’s not just about strength. It’s about endurance, control, and how well your knees handle load over time.

A few simple fixes 👇
• Build endurance, not just strength 💪
• Add rotational + stability work 🔄
• Train landing + deceleration 🛑
• Don’t ignore ankles + hips 🦵

Even 5–10 minutes a few times per week can make a huge difference on the mountain ⛰️

If knee pain is holding you back, let’s fix it before it gets worse.

Strong, stable, and injury-resilient starts with your adductors 💪

Groin strength isn’t just for athletes — it’s essential for cutting, sprinting, lifting, and even everyday movement. In today’s post, our PTs are breaking down 4 of our go-to exercises to build serious adductor strength:

🔥 Half Kneeling Open Adductor Lifts
🔥 Band Resisted Hip Flips
🔥 Copenhagen Planks
🔥 Lateral Slider Squats

These target control, power, and stability from multiple angles — helping reduce injury risk and improve performance.

Add 2–3 of these into your lower body days and feel the difference.

Save this for later ✔️

Just got back from the Winter Olympics and one thing stood out:

Norway. 🇳🇴

5 million people… dominating the medal count.

It’s not random.

They delay competition.

They encourage multi-sport play.

They prioritize enjoyment over early pressure.

And the result? Healthier, more resilient athletes who actually last.

In the US, we often see the opposite and the injuries that come with it.

Better development > earlier intensity. Every time.

That last DC snowstorm hit different. ❄️

Heavier snow. Longer hours. More injuries.

Every year, we see a spike in back pain after storms like this and it’s not random. Shoveling combines cold, stiffness, and repetitive lifting in one of the worst positions for your spine.

Most people treat it like a chore.

Your body treats it like a workout.

Warm up. Take breaks. Lift less than you think.

And if your back is still bothering you days later, don’t ignore it.
That’s where we come in.

Back pain isn’t always about having a “weak back.” ❌ It’s often about how well all the muscles in your core (including your back muscles) work together to control movement and handle load. 🧠💪

These exercises help train the muscles that support your spine:

45° Back Extension Hold
Builds endurance in the posterior chain and spinal stabilizers. Increase the challenge by reaching your arms overhead or holding a weight. 🏋️

Safety Squat Bar March
A great way to challenge trunk stability while the lower body moves. Focus on standing tall, staying balanced, and controlling each step.

Half-Kneeling Rotational Hold into Ball
Targets the core muscles responsible for controlling trunk rotation. Press the outside of your hand into the ball and rotate into the ball.

Small, controlled exercises like these can go a long way in improving spinal stability, load tolerance, and long-term back health. 🦴✨

Save this for your next training session. 💪

Aging ≠ Inevitable Injuries! 🚫

It’s not just about how old you are — it’s about how well you prepare your body for movement. 🧠💥 Injuries in your 40s and beyond often come from lifestyle shifts (less strength work, more stress, skipped warm-ups), not age alone. 👟✨ With the right training and recovery, you can stay strong, mobile, and active for years to come! 🙌🏽📈

🔥 Get smart about training
💤 Prioritize rest
🏃‍♂️ Stay consistent — not extreme
➡️ Train for what you want to do 👊🏽

Why do runners keep getting injured?

It’s not always mileage… the biggest culprit might be what you’re NOT doing in the other 165 hours of the week. 🤯

💡 Poor strength, limited mobility, fatigue, and training imbalances can catch up with you fast — even if your runs feel fine. 🧠⚠️

🔹 Run smarter
🔹 Build strength off-the-run
🔹 Train the whole body
🔹 Listen to what your body is telling you

Keep your legs running for years, not just months! 🙌🔥
