“I’ve practiced Pilates at home for decades and it’s always kept me healthy and pain free. It was only until recently that I’ve been experiencing aches and pains from my old age. Pilates has kept me ache-free! If anything, it gave me strength and made me stronger than most people my age. The only reason I’ve stopped is because I now have herniated discs and a frozen shoulder that limits my flexibility.”

Pilates is absolutely life-changing and everyone who practices it, wishes they started sooner! Since we opened our doors, hundred of friendly faces have entered our doors in hopes of healing an ailment or strengthening their body.

We'll keep preaching it until we can't anymore! There is healing through movement!! That's why it's the motto here at balance studio. I don’t know if I could have avoided developing back problems, but if I could go back and start doing Pilates at age 18, in hopes of postponing them as long as possible, and feeling better throughout, I’d do it in a heartbeat."

“The Virtual sessions are good because I don’t have to worry about time getting ready and driving to the studio. I can get dressed, turn on my computer, and hop onto ZOOM! There is a give-and-take though...

I find it can be harder to push yourself in a virtual class if you aren’t already persistent and driven for the workout. There’s a level of control that gives being in the studio the advantage. But I love them both and wish I could keep going!”

Finding your ideal workout is extremely important for the long-run! MCB is absolutely right!

The extra motivation from the studio environment can definitely give you that boost you need to power through your workout!

For some, the added isolation from a home-workout can help you to hone-in your focus & concentrate on the precise movements of your exercises.

Surprisingly, only a select few really know how balance studio came to be!! We've definitely come a long way from the humble studio we started at. We wouldn't be where we are today if we didn't learn a ton along the way!

We've had a couple of relocations over the years, but this little area of Bethesda is where we call home! We may be on the ground level of the apartment complex, but we feel like we're on top of the world!

Our neighbors are great and a few of them stop by the studio to participate in class or train with our renter. There are even a handful of professionals from Downtown Bethesda who visit the studio on their lunch break to squeeze in a workout!!

Sometimes, there's an exercise in the routine that we don't particularly like. It can't be helped! 🤷🏼‍♀️

While each of these exercises works wonders on your body and has a place in the overall routine, they can be a bit troublesome at times.

Now, we must admit, the majority of these were said in good fun and might not have the full context. 😂 It's these light conversations and comments that bring a sense of comradery and community to the studio.

When all is said and done, our clients are committed to reaching their personal goals. They show up day-in and day-out with an amazing amount of dedication to themselves and their fitness journey.

Try to ask our clients which exercises they LIKE and you'll never be able to leave!! It was hard enough getting these responses because everyone loves their Pilates workouts so much 😆

No matter when or where you started, balance studio will be here to support you! 💜

It's incredible to be able to look back on 21+ years of life-changing Pilates and Gyrotonic® practice. Our studio has moved around a few times and instructors have come & gone... but we're still standing strong! 💪🏻

We've noticed a number of clients return to the studio after a 5-8 year hiatus. We want to welcome you back!! A few things have changed since your last visit but we're still the same friendly, familiar place you remember. Not to mention, a couple of the instructors are still hanging around and teaching new clients!!

Thank you for sharing your stories and experiences with us at the studio. Not only does it boost our morale, but it can help others find the exercise that's right for them. We wish you the best on your journey to

I think we're all in agreement: Virtual Classes were a Lifesaver! 💜💻

When the pandemic hit Maryland, the majority of our clients were turned away from the studio due to limitations put into place. 🚷 We decided to launch Virtual classes and stay connected with the balance community! 🌐

Since then, we've added a few more Virtual classes, and adjusted our focus to Pilates and Gyrotonic®, with a hint of Yoga. We're still adapting and evolving with the times and our clients' needs. However, we wouldn't be here without all of you amazing people!!

Thank you for your support and ongoing love for the studio. We'll 'see' you on ZOOM or during your next in-person session! 💜💜

There are two things that you can always expect from a Maryland Summer... it's going to be HOT and WET. 🥵☔

Whether the sun is blazing all afternoon or the thunderstorms decide to roll in for a brief moment in the evening, this humid weather has become the norm! ☀🌩

A number of our clients and instructors have mentioned that the nighttime has been particularly warm. It's become so warm, in fact, that many of us are struggling to fall or stay asleep. Which is extremely unfortunate since sleep is a key component to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and allowing your body to recover from a day's work. So what do you do? 🤔

Bumping down the A/C and removing the covers don't always do the trick! Sometimes we need to take extra measures to cool down the bedroom - or the living room, for those who know 😉😆.
For some, a damp rag or t-shirt over the fan near a window will get the job done. For others, it can be much more complicated!

Have you experienced restless nights due to the heat of Summer?

Remember to stay hydrated and to be cautious when out doing activities in this heat! 🚶🏽🚶🏼‍♀️

Some light aerobics performed during peak afternoon hours (12p-3p) can easily sap your energy reserves. The combination of heat, light, & movement will drain your hydration & energy levels in a matter of minutes, so please be careful! 💜

Don't get caught off guard, it's still Summer time 😎☀️🏖

Hi folks! It's Tyler here!

I wanted to share a small bit from my life and how Pilates has already begun to affect my personal health. 🙋🏽‍♂️

I was athletic back in high school & early college, but I allowed myself to lose control of my physical health during my college years. I could still move how I wanted, but didn't have the strength or stamina that I used to...

I'm rather new to Pilates, having had my first session only a month ago! Since then, I have had more confidence to practice Pilates in my spare time! The 'occasional' morning routine has already made DRASTIC changes to my everyday fitness!

Whether I'm walking up stairs, going on a run, or out hiking the C&O, I've found that my body moves better when it's directed from the core...

I thought I had bodily-awareness before trying Pilates, but boy was I off the mark!!!

What I originally interpreted as a mind-body connection was actually just really good spatial awareness. My general movements were lacking control and my body was/is riddled with imbalances. (That would explain the history of leg and back injuries!!) Now that I'm 'feeling' each movement originate from my core, I feel stronger, lighter, and more capable of physical activity!

I could go on and on about how Pilates has made me feel physically and emotionally and what I'm learning along the way, but I'll save that for another day!!
