As we look ahead to 2026 with excitement and optimism, we hope you’re taking some well-deserved time to rest, reflect, and celebrate — especially with the people who matter most. ✨

This past year, your dedication, compassion, and commitment made a real difference in the lives of patients and communities. That impact deserves to be honored.

Thank you for everything you do, today and every day. From all of us at APMA, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year. 🎉

Since July, our newly strengthened advocacy team has led 100+ meetings with congressional offices, bringing podiatry’s priorities directly to Capitol Hill.

With the continued support of APMAPAC, APMA staff and members participated in 75+ events with members of Congress, educating health policy leaders on the issues that matter most to podiatric medicine. We closed out 2025 strong with a Diabetes Awareness Month Leadership Hill Day, where members of the Board of Trustees and Emerging Leaders Program met with lawmakers to highlight the critical role podiatrists play in diabetes care.

To every APMA member who showed up, spoke out, and advocated for our profession — thank you. Your voice is making a difference, and together we’re building momentum for the year ahead.

In case you missed it: CMS' A/B Medicare Administrative Contractors have withdrawn final Local Coverage Determinations for certain skin substitutes that were set to become effective January 1. With the withdrawal of these LCDs, there are no skin substitute coverage changes for Part B Medicare patients in the new year, but the payment changes finalized in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2026 remain.

Travel-related foot and ankle swelling is common and usually benign, but it’s preventable. When you sit for long periods, blood and fluid pool in the lower extremities. Contributing factors include high salt intake, dehydration, and some medications.

Practical steps to recommend:
- Encourage movement: stand/walk every 30–60 minutes and perform ankle pumps during travel.
- Recommend graduated compression socks for long flights/drives.
- Advise hydration and reducing sodium intake before and during travel.

Refer for clinical evaluation if swelling is sudden, painful, asymmetric, or linked with cardiopulmonary symptoms.

Share with patients to help make travel healthier and more comfortable this holiday season!
