Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) - What to Know
Frozen shoulder is when the shoulder capsule becomes inflamed and stiff, causing pain + a gradual loss of motion—often making it hard to reach overhead or behind your back.

Common signs
✅ Increasing stiffness over time (not just soreness)
✅ Night pain, especially when sleeping on that side
✅ Trouble reaching up, across, or behind your back (bra strap/seatbelt)

👩 Does it affect women more than men?
Yes, frozen shoulder is more common in women, most often between ages 40–60. It’s also more common in people with diabetes or thyroid conditions.

How OrthoBethesda can help!
The right plan can shorten the shoulder pain struggle, often with targeted physical therapy, guided mobility work, and pain-relief options when appropriate. Call the shoulder experts today at OrthoBethesda.

Knee Arthritis – Signs It’s Time to Get Checked
If knee pain is changing how you walk, climb stairs, or get through your day, it’s worth getting checked—especially if you notice some of the following symptoms:

1️⃣ Pain with stairs or getting up from a chair
Knee arthritis often shows up as an achy pain with stairs (especially going down), squatting, or standing up after sitting.
2️⃣ Stiffness after sitting
That “rusty knee” feeling when you first stand—then it loosens after a few steps—can be a classic pattern.
3️⃣ Swelling that comes and goes
If your knee slightly swells after activity or feels tight/full, it can be a sign of joint irritation.

Luckily, you don’t have to “live with it.” Many people improve with activity modifications, targeted strengthening/physical therapy, anti-inflammatory options, and other non-surgical treatments.

If symptoms persist, we can also discuss advanced procedures and the best next step for your goals.

😴 Side-of-hip pain when you sleep?
Pain on the outside of the hip—especially when lying on that side— is often hip bursitis, which is irritation of the small fluid-filled cushion (“bursa”) near the hip joint and/or nearby glute tendon irritation.

✅ Quick tip: reduce the use of stairs/hills temporarily, add gentle hip strengthening, and address walking mechanics.

If it’s keeping you from sleep or activity, call OrthoBethesda’s hip specialists and they’ll get you Back to Better quick!

Stop making your shoulder do the job it wasn’t built for ✅

OrthoBethesda orthopedic surgeon Dr. Craig A. Miller calls it the Shoulder Safe Box - hands close, in front, controlled.

Far reaches + overhead storage = your shoulder paying the price.

Your shoulder is happiest in that comfortable zone in front of you—not repeatedly reaching high, far, or overhead. Small change. Big difference.

Shoulder pain not improving? Call OrthoBethesda today at 301-530-1010

🦵 Think You May Have Torn Your ACL? Here’s What to Look For 👇
Your ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) plays a major role in keeping your knee stable — especially during sports, quick pivots, or sudden stops. When it’s injured, your knee will let you know.

Common Signs of an ACL Tear:

🚨 A sudden “pop” at the moment of injury
🚨 Immediate pain or swelling in the knee
🚨 Feeling like your knee might “give out”
🚨 Trouble walking or straightening the leg
🚨 Loss of stability or confidence in movement

If these symptoms sound familiar, it’s important to get evaluated right away. At OrthoBethesda, our fellowship-trained sports medicine specialists provide advanced diagnosis and personalized treatment for ACL injuries — from conservative care to minimally invasive reconstruction.

💪 Whether you’re an athlete or simply want to move without pain, we’ll help you get back to doing what you love — safely and confidently.

📅 Schedule your consultation today, call the orthopedic knee specialists at (301) 530-1010.
