Do you suffer from a distinct type of headache characterized by piercing, throbbing, or electric-shock-like chronic pain in the upper neck, back of the head, and behind the ears, usually on one side of the head?

You may have Occipital Neuralgia, also commonly known as Migraines.

Occipital neuralgia may occur spontaneously, or as a result of a pinched nerve root in the neck, prior injury or surgery, or also tight muscles at the back of the head. Occipital neuralgia or migraines cannot be cured in the traditional sense, but utilizing Physical Therapy can come with many benefits. It will not only relieve the pain in your neck but it will also work to strengthen your neck muscles, improve your posture, reduce stiffness, increase range of motion and prevent the pain from recurring.

This has been a fun day for our patients as our very own PT Kara Jewell-Welling is a former WVU Mountaineer cheerleader!!🤸‍♀️💙💛
She has made sure our [former] Pitt grad PT Student Riley (seen shaking his head at the end of the video) has got to see the WVU pre-game routine once an hour, every hour 😅
