David is this week's Clubfoot Cutie, from Cameroon - his story from our partner Hope and Healing International is truly heartwarming:
When Florence gave birth to her long-awaited son, David, the joy of his arrival was overshadowed by heartbreak. He was born with bilateral clubfoot. “I have longed for this baby, and now he is born with this condition... I didn’t know what to do,” she said, holding back tears. With no steady partner, no job, and a newborn with a disabling condition, Florence felt completely alone. Her new partner was largely absent, and her only support was her elderly grandmother, Njuma. A devoted community worker at CBCHS, named Moses, visited Florence’s community and identified David for care.
Thanks to a program supported by Hope and Healing International and CBCHS, David was enrolled for treatment using the Ponseti method at Ngounso Baptist Hospital. At just two weeks old, his first casts were applied. “We couldn’t get the money to pay for the treatment. May God continue to give you people strength wherever you go,” said Florence’s grandmother. By the time David turned one, everything had changed. His feet were straight, he was standing on his own, and could wear shoes just like any other child. His progress brought joy not just to Florence, but to their entire community. “He is standing well and moving on his feet without difficulty, especially when he holds onto something,” Florence said. “Every night he wears his braces before he sleeps, just as the hospital told us.”
Those braces – donated by Clubfoot Solutions – have continued to give children like David a chance at full mobility and full lives. Even now, nearly a decade after your original gift, these braces are helping hundreds of children in Cameroon walk without pain. David’s recovery even helped heal family relationships. His father, once distant, has since claimed him proudly – so much so that he changed David’s name on the birth certificate to reflect his Nigerian heritage. “The treatment brought joy to my heart,” Florence said. “Now everyone loves him. We are so thankful for your support and love.”
