Good to know!

07/14/2019

Miss Lily was concerned that you all out there did not know how important nutrition is to living a longer life. Read Miss Lily’s article from the August edition of Healthy Cells...especially during this hot Summer.

ARE YOU HOT!?

I went out for a walk earlier and almost fainted! My mouth was so dry and I was so uncomfortable that Marilyn got really scared. She brought me back home, sat me down, gave me a nice glass of water and, helped me change my blouse. It was sopping wet. Why am I telling you this? Why do you think? Some of you are like me, often confused and not always on top of your health. This could happen to you.

Marilyn is always telling me to drink more water, eat more vegetables, more fruit… but I tell her the same things over and over again. I don’t like to drink water, I forget to eat my fruit and as for vegetables… you can have them! But, after this morning I think I might change my attitude. After almost fainting and just feeling so bad the glass of water really me feel better… lots better. So I got to thinking. If a glass of water makes me feel better, makes me feel stronger, what could eating veggies and fruit do for me. So for lunch, Marilyn made me a salad (I was wearing my teeth today) with chopped broccoli, chopped nuts, cranberries and chopped spinach. And, she made me this delicious dressing that made the salad really taste good. I’ll get the recipe for the dressing and give it to you later.

It’s going to continue to be hot and I’m not going to take a chance on fainting any more. I was so scared… One minute I was standing and the next I started to see stars and my legs were turning mushy. Thank goodness Marilyn was with me and grabbed my arm. This is where I become a nutritionist to you all out there! Marilyn tells me that you gotta have eight glasses of water every day. Well, I don’t know if I can make it to eight but if I keep one of those tall plastic glasses filled with water and a straw, I will sip it throughout the day. Marilyn bought me one of those big glasses when she took me to Subway last week. She cleans it up for me after I’m finished so I can reuse it. You gotta keep yourself hydrated, you know… wet inside so you don’t faint.

As for the fruit and veggies… that’s easy. Marilyn keeps fresh fruit cut up in the fridge and I can take it any time I want. It tastes really good in this hot weather. Sometimes the veggies are too hard for me to eat when they aren’t cooked. In that case, Marilyn gives me a glass of V8 juice at lunch. It really isn’t bad and, if you put a little Vodka in it…even better. But don’t tell Marilyn I told you that. I can have a little of that before my dinner. There are so many ways to fix fruits and veggies but I can’t tell you how to do that. You gotta ask your helper or look in a magazine. There are always lots of recipes… Believe me, if you want to start feeling better you have to have these things every day. Don’t argue, just do it! You’ll be amazed how better you feel… stronger, maybe more energy and, that’s just for starters. Next time I’ll tell you how I’ve been working out. I want to get my body back to when I was 84…. In the meantime, don’t go out in this terrible heat by yourself and, always take a bottle of water with you!

Love and hugs,
Miss Lily

CONVERSATIONS WITH MISS LILY

Marilyn is back!!!! Having the option of in-home care is a plus when your caregiver is someone you like and trust. And, when my caregiver couldn’t come for a while the agency sent a substitute. Boy, was I angry and I wasn’t going to let her in until she said, “Miss Lily, Marilyn told me to come and fix your favorite breakfast!” What is it?: A Strawberry Omelet. How could I say no? The lady even warmed up my towel when she helped me bathe. How lucky can an old lady be. She warmed my towel and my heart!

I know that finding a good caregiver isn’t easy but if your family takes their time in checking one out, another lady could be found. I’m telling other people like me…get over yourself! Accept the help! You might get a great breakfast and hot towels.

Linda Gilman: the point of Miss Lily’s conversation is, there are wonderful agencies out there who offer wonderful in-home care. I know of a few and I would love to share them with you if you are interested. As you read, Marilyn Woelke is back and we are ready to present our programs to your business. This may be the last Summer Miss Lily and Marilyn will be presenting. Take advantage, people. As always, you can always contact me or Marilyn for either Presentations or Consulting Services.
