I had been performing a traditional deep plane facelift since the mid nineties but through the years I increasingly became frustrated about the poor results of the mid face and nasolabial fold and the flattening of the cheek area. There are two reasons for it: 1) the vector of pull is horizontal and , at best oblique, so instead of creating a beautiful projection of the cheek it was flattening it. 2) the undermining of the skin is limited to a small area and ,as the minneti group from Australia has shown, it is not effective for the naso- labial fold.
So I abandoned the technique and I developed the deep plane vertical lift which is completely different ( and it is not the Vertical Restore in which the facelift part is a traditional deep plane). The undermining of the skin is much wider and goes to the naso-labial fold. This way the mid face muscles can be pulled truly vertically plus it is much more effective for the naso- labial fold.
Don’t get any deep plane facelift, get the vertical facelift!

When you see a before and after picture result and you see that the plastic surgeon uses a before picture with already markings on the face, it means that is trying to enhance artificially his results. First an experienced plastic surgeon does not need to put any markings on the face before surgery but if they do, please don’t use it in the before pics, it is just not fair😜

Permanent fillers in the lips (like silicone) are a devastating problem. Removal is always very difficult and challenging.
Unnatural lip fullness is a tale tell sign of overdone plastic surgery so it is essential to address the issue. In this case the post op picture is taken on the operating room to show of the amount of swelling involved after the surgery. Sutures are absorbable. As you can appreciate the lips look already improved despite the swelling.

I have been very vocal about having realistic expectations because it is the key of being satisfied after surgery. When media portrait unobtainable results as real like in this case, it sets a standard for regular people to go after. And that is bad for both plastic surgeons and patients. There is no question that whoever did her facelift, did an excellent job so why touch up the picture?
This post proves without any doubts what I have been saying for months.
Educating patients about surgery is the key of a plastic surgeon’s success and patient’s satisfaction!
