🚀 Building Skills with a Rocket Ship Craft!
Today we turned simple shapes into a rocket ship, a powerful skill-building moment!

Assembling and copying/tracing shapes helps your child develop visual motor skills (how their eyes and hands work together) and fine motor control (cutting, placing, gluing). These are key foundations for tasks like handwriting, dressing, and using school tools.

After building the rocket, we practiced writing the word “Rocket Ship,” supporting letter formation and motor planning in a fun, low-pressure way.

Crafts like these may look simple, but they’re packed with purpose! 🎨✂️📝.

Creating a sensory-friendly space at doesn’t have to be complicated. Soft lighting, calming visuals, and cozy textures can help kids self-regulate and reset. In pediatric OT, we create calm moments that help kids grow, learn, and thrive. What sensory tools do your kids love most?

Is your child struggling with tasks like holding a pencil, buttoning clothes, or using scissors?
These are signs of fine motor weakness, and they can impact confidence, school success, and independence.

In occupational therapy, we work on building strength, coordination, and control in those small muscles of the hands. Through play-based, purposeful activities (just like the ones in this photo!), we help kids develop the skills they need for everyday tasks.

Fine motor skills can improve—with the right support. If you’re noticing these challenges in your child, reach out to learn how OT can help! ❣️

Splat! 👋🏻 Slime is gooey, sticky, and “slimmy” which are all great for tactile feedback! Slime is a wonderful tactile tool that can help address those tactile seeking/avoiding kiddos. The more exposure to different textures, the lesser defensive kiddos become. Try adding items inside to add more texture and feedback 🩵

Scroll through for multiple ways that you can address TACTILE DEFENSIVENESS! Make sure you are slowly introducing each texture to those kiddos who have sensitivity to touch and are hyper-responsive to tactile media! 🩵

1. Baking bread
2. Rainbow rice
3. Shaving cream
4. Slime
5. Paint
6. Kinetic sand
7. “Snow”- shaving cream + baking soda

So many different things one can do with PLAYDOH that is THERAPEUTIC!!!

1. Roll it into a snake and practice cutting skills (fine motor, visual motor, bimanual coordination)

2. Roll small snips into small balls with circular motions (fine motor, bimanual coordination)

3. Use tongs or chopsticks to squeeze small balls and transfer them into a stationary target. I used pencils as chopsticks because I didn’t have tongs or chopsticks 😂 (fine motor, visual motor, visual perception, bimanual coordination).

Overall, you are also getting rich tactile feedback from the playdoh throughout the all these activities!!
