Every trip to Ethiopia brings its own set of challenges with complex cases, limited resources and the emotional weight that comes with caring for patients who have been waiting years for help. But standing beside a teammate who meets every obstacle with skill and compassion changes everything.

Reflecting on this case from our trip to Ethiopia ✨ It is always remarkable to see how transformative the first stage of microtia reconstruction can be. The ability to create an ear framework from a patient’s own rib cartilage is one of the most rewarding parts of this work, and watching it settle and heal over time is truly amazing.

Our hope is that we will be able to welcome her back for the second stage of the process, where we can elevate the ear and refine its natural contour. Seeing patients progress through each step of their reconstruction is a privilege, and we remain grateful for every opportunity to help them move closer to the confidence and comfort they deserve.
